Would love to hear your prospective on this statement. Why would garrett go back to a number display on the ATPRO WHEN ITS ACE 250 has a easy to read not to mention trying to figure out numbers on the PRO.This is the same as the american car manufactures getting their butts kicked by the Japanese Back in the late 70s and eighties. Why< because they stayed with one engine and improved on it year after year.point in case, look at problems with AT-PRO You can read them on that forum. I would just like to hear everyones views on this, thanks Wayne and good hunting.

Basically because each block represents a block of numbers and well a number is just that a specific number(more accurate) ..not a block...and don't think ATpro problems are with meter numbers ought to cover it and every new unit may or may not have small problems which the company upgrades for free...

A lot of users prefer a VDI system over a display showing icons with notches. Also, the VDI system on the AT Pro is greatly expanded compared to the ACE Series. The AT Pro will numerically and/or audibly show subtle differences between targets such as different types of pennies or pull tabs.

Ill chime in on this one...Dave on here gets this point thats for sure...Him and his ACE 250. I now have the ACE 350 and the reality is, I liked the set up on the ACE 250 better. What I think is that Garrett can not go back. They cant keep getting better and better....how much difference really is there from the ACE 250 and ACE 350 and even the ATPRO.....??? yeah there is some but not a whole lot. It comes down to just knowing your machine. Dave could go out with his ACE 250 in a area with a guy who has an AT PRO and clean up...while the guy with the PRO doesnt do as well.
Garrett realized that many of us "mentally" we all want to upgrade so they keep coming out with new models. They got to make money I guess. Long live the ACE 250.....and here I sit with the ACE 350 because I wanted to upgrade....ha ha.

Personally I think that the Ace 250 would be even better if it had the VDI numbers as well. Still a great machine though. I was actually thinking of parting with mine and getting an AT Pro so I can have that added feature AND have the option of water hunting. Only difference is that I would buy the 6.5 X 9 coil also.

Where did I hear that Kellyco or some other dealer will take your Ace 250 and give you a discount on a new AT Pro??

The numeric display on the At Pro gives much higher resolution whereas the Ace 250 gives more of a 'ball park' indication. The 0 - 99 digital readout on the Pro is not as good as the the huge analog meter on my old Grand Master Hunter but it is lot more than the 12 segments of the the Ace 250. Just my take on it.

Yeah I hear ya.....there is no doubt there are better features on the PRO......for people just getting started I guess, the ACE 250 is the way to go. That detector will not let you down if you are just starting and wont make you take out a loan to get one.

WOW ... like night and day difference!

Depth ... the AT PRO detects deeper!
Stability ... The AT PRO is more stable (when set up correctly)
Quality ... The AT PRO is better built.
AT PRO is waterproof to 10 feet.
AT PRO has a better and larger coil.
AT PRO has VDI numbers instead of blocks.
AT PRO has better scaling in the IRON area.
AT PRO has the IRON tone feature.
AT PRO in pro mode has no BELL TONE >>>> YEAH!

Yeah ... they do look something alike .... and they both have the Garrett name on them!

The ACE 250 is a beginners detector ... a turn on and go, dig when it beeps, hope for the best, limited user interface, detector.
It is simple to operate and hard to misadjust.
Now that isnt a bad thing cause there are some technically challenged people that just can not understand advanced features and how to use them.
They will always find more with a turn on and go detector cause they will never get the more advanced detector set up correctly.
Nor will they understand its operation as well as the do the simple one.
But those that do understand ... know there is a huge difference in performance and features between the ACE 250 and the AT PRO.

Garrett can go back ... they still sell the ACE 250 ... and it works as well as it ever did.
Just because Garrett made new detectors dont mean the old ones stop working or that you are forced to stop using them.
If you like the ACE 250 better than all the others and it suits your needs then you have no reason to use anything else.

And .... yes ... they can keep getting better and better ... it just depends on what YOU see as "better".
