A little curious

Hey all, I have an IDX PRO that was recently modified by Bill at Surfscanner. I really like the detector a lot but lately have myself convinced that I need a MXT. I really wish I had the funds to keep the IDX and add an MXT to my arsenal but unfortunately I don't. What I am wondering is what do you suppose the IDX Pro is worth? The machine is a 9 out of 10 not a scratch on it (except on the coil cover) I also have the 950 coil and blue max 600. Not looking for offers or anything like just now I am just curious as to what you think I could get for it in a MXT Trade type situation, would it be worth it or shall I just start saving my clad and wait until it piles up enough to buy one.

HANG ONTO AN EXCELLENT MODIFIED IDX PRO!!

If you really want to TRY something else, save up the $$$. Maybe meet up with someone who has a model you're interested in checking out? But for darn sure, keep the modified IDX Pro in your arsenal. I know that I made a mistake a time or two letting one go and won't do that again. I have my Shadow X5 along with me, and my X-Terra 70, both of which are great detectors, but there's still no 'perfect' detector and I find myself grabbing the reliable IDX Pro often enough to retain an appreciation for it.

We're clearing out of town later today and I am headed back into Eastern Oregon. Sure hope there's something half decent left for me over there.

Your modified IDX Pro is a great machine, and will be very difficult to replace if you let it go.

Can't blame you for wanting an MXT. The stories about them paint a great picture. And, they are truly a very good and versatile machine.

Using your IDX Pro, you have become accustomed to a silent or nearly silent search mode. Operated properly, and MXT is far from silent search. Some people never get accustomed to the MXT chatter. If you haven't used an MXT, take Monte's advice and find one to test out before you buy.

Again, I am not trying to talk you out of an MXT. I have an MXT. They are outstanding machines. But, I hate to see a person give up a great machine for one they may have real problems becoming accustomed to.

Thanks guys! I think you are right I will keep the IDX pro and wait until I can afford another detector instead of selling or trading away a detector that I know works and works well.

If you coinhunt most of the time take a close look at the M6 it is one hot detector for coins and will relic hunt.
I use one with the XL PRO very nice team.:twodetecting:

How right you are white metal detectors are like a fine wine. and like a fine wine the older thay get the better thay are. The cost to buy a 6000 pro will be going to be $500.00 or more I Paid $285.00 for a white 6000DI SYSTEM 3 I like the manual ground balance.

Go for the MXT is all I can say. You'll be amazed by the finds AND the success by using this machine.

IDXpro isn't comparable to the MXT. The MXT can be used as a silent search one like the IDX is. But you always can add the threshold. In some cases a very helpful feature.

The M6 has the same motherboard than the MXT has, but the 7 tone ID does not countervail the 2 tone ID in relic mode with adjustable disc point which the MXT has.

I've got an MXT, but would like to have a modified IDX pro also. Rob

Keeping the IDX Pro with MBMod makes sense to me, as it gives you a Very Quick 6.59 kHz Look into the ground. Its NO Prizm, but that's not saying its good. It's older technology, but so is my Compass Coin Magnum and White's Supreme V, and both are still fun to play with and will find things missed by others.

The M6 (White's Latest Model sharing the basic MXT Chip but with reworked software) or MXT would give you 14.7 kHz, so more sensitive on Low Conductors.

I'm hearing a lot of good feed back both from my Customers and others on the Xterra-70 which I haven't had a chance to use yet (have used the Xterra-50 and also love it.

One of my customers, Howard H, who has BOTH the Xterra 50 and 70, likes the Prospecting Mode of the 70, as it is similar in its response, like a Sovereign GT or SD Series Detector. The 70 LIKE the MXT/M6 has Ground Tracking, not so critical for coin hunting, but is a positive factor during changing ground conditions while gold nugget hunting or at a salt water beach. The Xterra although limited in its coil sizes, the three 9" concentric coils change the frequency from the middle or standard 7.5 kHz to a Lower 3 kHz (High Conductive Silver) to 18.5 kHz (Low Conductive Gold).

However, higher frequencies above the old Garrett Ground Hog Standard of 15 kHz means small iron is going to react more and rejecting it cleanly becomes a bit more difficult. I prefer the 12 to 15 kHz levels for BEST Iron V Gold Signals.

With the MXT, you can hunt in three discrete modes (Coin&Jewelry, Relic, prospecting) and enjoy full resolution VDI. The M6 lacks the Prospecting and Relic Mode, but seems to have a bit smoother operation in the Coin and Jewelry mode over the MXT, along with a new Seven Tone ID System you can turn on, especially when running no Disc in the Motion Mode, works great on the beach.

Start saving and banking that Clad/silver your finding with your Mr Bill Modified Classic IDX PRO.... On a regular basis, not to mention any rings, you should have more than enough coinage to assist in your purchase by any of the aforementioned highly regarded models.

Can you give a few examples of waterproof machines that are in the same league as an MXT or Xterra?
