A Little confused need help.

OK I been reading and watching the videos but still a little confused about the water proof part.
If you use Wireless Headphones do you still have to wear the module somewhere?
And the module isn't waterproof right?
My concern is I get into the waves and eventually one gets you good and I don't want Salt Water getting into the Module.
I see they have a Plug for the headphone jack but if Salt Water should enter even with the plug would you be in trouble?
Thanks.

There is a screw on cap they give you to cover the water proof jack if you do not plug headphones into it. It is stored in the back of the 1/4" module you take off of the machine to get to the waterproof connector. The wireless module is not waterproof so you will want to keep it dry maybe wrap it in a bag just in case. Also it is being reported if the screen goes under water you will lose wireless audio at least for a few seconds.

Also check out the video called Go Detecting Anywhere with CTX at this link

If you are going to go wireless audio, your really not totally wireless. You must have a set of head phones(your choice of headphones with any 1/4" plug) plugged into the wireless module. The wire less module is not water proof. You can also use the wireless module without headphones, it has a built in speaker.

If your going to go in the water, you must remove the headphone adapter on the rear of the machine because it is not waterproof either. Check out the video maybe this will help.

to explain to me why this picture shows the headphone module under water but everything says it is not waterproof. I must have some brain cells damaged from my teen years. Can someone else try? I understand with the waterproof plug on the underwater headphone jack makes the CTX waterproof but what protects the 1/4" jack from rust and salt corrosion? Is there another plug for the 1/4" jack? It seems to me that the headphone adaptor should simply be taken off and the plug used on the waterproof jack when in the water but the picture shows it on.

That picture is one I haven't been able to "wrap my head around" either Larry.-----That h.p. adapter has to DEFINITELY be taken off to make the unit totally waterproof.---I understand (now) the full explanation of the waterproof operation of the detector and what is necessary to operate it in the water (waterproof).------But---What's with that picture???---Minelab didn't make a "goof" in showing it that way, did they?-----You surely wouldn't think they would have made a mistake in showing it like that in their product picture.-----I don't "get it" either Larry. (the picture)--It doesn't "go" with the explanation.------Maybe you & I both have damaged brain cells!-------Del

I think it is an error, or maybe they wanted to show the machine like that instead of having a blank spot where the module is. It would have been better represented with the module off and the waterproof headphones attached.

I hope someone don't mistake the picture for actual functionality and drown their machine.

Are we birds of a feather Del?

You know it could be that aesthetically it looked better for the picture to leave the module on. Just like when the take pictures of the coil cable wrapped neatly around the lower shaft, even though you should never wrap your copil cable around the lower rod of any detector because of the magnetic field it generates.

Probably would not look good for the module to be off, with the waterproof headphone jack just hanging out there with nothing plugged into it.

You guys are getting rediculous. Go to Minelab or youtube. Watch videos and learn for petes sakes.
I'm sure digger or the many other testers will be giving more tips and tricks once the 3030 is released.
Until then take a chill pill.

Well guess what.
You can bet that Minelab will be seeing A LOT of detectors in for service for water damage because the user either didn't remove the module or screw in the waterproof cap correctly...
They are gonna be backed up in service big time - my opinion before you skewer me to pieces...

I wonder how they are going to respond - hopefully NOT "user error"...

What you just described would be user error, wouldn't it? If someone does not take the appropriate measures to set up the machine correctly before getting in the water why should they expect Minelab to pay for their own mistake.

If you change the oil in your car but forget to put the plug back in the oil pan, I don't believe the manufacurer would be at fault when the motor locks up.

Well I mean it is user error. There is information all over the place (included with the machine as well....) to tell you how to use the machine. If I go out a buy a John Deer riding lawnmower and run it over a water main a bend the crank is John Deer going to replace the mower or engine for me? Lots of luck. If memory serves from what I've read the waterproof connector will not allow water penetration so I would assume the worse case scenario is you replace the 1/4" headphone jack module.

I read all these forums, not because I plan on buying every detector out there, I'm far too practical and poor for that. But I read these forums so when I do decide to move to a different detector I will hopefully be an informed customer. So I gladly applaud all you people for asking all these questions and probing for info. Bottom line is I want to hear the good, the bad and the ugly of all these high end expensive boy toys. That picture was confusing and watching this and that video didn't make things any clearer. So don't let yourself be intimidated into not asking questions.

I call it ignorance with Photoshp.
