A little better coin count this afternoon, plus.......

Managed another 58 coins this afternoon, plus the chance to try out the older (circa 1940s) high school here in town, hopeful I might pick up a few older coins and "big kid" jewelry. The 150/4.5 Sniper didn't let me down, though there were more junk targets to contend with.

Picked out two silver dimes this time around, one Roosevelt and one Mercury, along with a few wheats, and another two rings, this time silver and GOLD ! Not big rings, but at least better than aluminum gumball jewelry. This makes a total of 6 rings in 3 trips out. The little 150 in jewelry mode just seems to attract rings like a magnet. The little thin 10k gold ring has a small diamond, and signaled in the nickel icon range with a VERY strong signal. I almost expected it to be a nickel, except that it gave that slight little "double bleep" that the nickels don't. Anyone who says a lower frequency machine is not as sensitive to small gold as a higher frequency detector needs to give one of the Ace models a spin..... :)

At this point I'm pumped up waiting on the 250 to arrive so I can do some experimenting between the two units, and maybe do some notch-tweaking for a better jewelry program. I just don't see the little Ace machines giving up too much to the much higher priced "superior" detectors out there on the market.

Great day, Again, Ralph. 6 rings in 3 outings; WOW!!

My 250 should be here by Friday; anxious to get started and at least get somewhat used to it before spring. Limited to playground woodchips right now & they're often picked over. Which is OK=good test for the 250.

Nice haul Ralphie. Glad to see you nailing those rings. The YF does like rings. I've picked up a few since I started playing with it. One of my favorites is a fiftieth wedding anniversary band. It's sterling or white gold ( can't remember ) with a gold chain inlaid across the top half of the ring. I've found a bunch of the gumball rings. Also found a real tiny baby's christening ring in 14 KT. Pic of it.

... a dyed in the wool Garrett skeptic - until now. Search and read his posts, if your still hesitant about an Ace.

I wasn't "always" a Garrett skeptic. I did use a couple of Garrett models on and off back in the 70s, and Charlie's early BFO machines were some of the best back then.

I think one of the biggest attributes of these little Ace models is their simplistic design concept. Garrett didn't make them "seem complicated to appear good"......if you know what I mean. LarryB is right too in his comment below. There is no denying the "fun factor" involved in using a well designed and simple machine that performs as well as these do. Alot of times I will pick up a new machine and immediately focus on it's strong points, but all too often it is a down-hill ride from there as the little idiosyncracies start to creep to the forefront and "show their stuff". The few machines that keep getting better are the ones that tend to stick around. As Bill can tell you, we like to pick a new machine apart like we are eating Kentucky Fried Chicken, stripping them to the bone and focusing on the meat instead of the smell. ;)

There isn't just alot to complain about with these little gems.

Nice, nice, nice!!! The little Ace units really do shine on the gold, really give a good, strong signal. Great finds and thanx for sharing the pics.

Yeah ain't it refreshing Ralph. I tried hard but couldn't find much wrong with this puppy. If Garrett's future offerings are anything like this one we will be entering a new era, and it's about time.

Hold off a few days Fred. I have a 250 due here tomorrow, and will be doing some detailed side-by-side tests between the two over the weekend, and posting up a report Saturday or Sunday. I've been interested in trying to determine if they both offer similar performance, or if there are some more obvious differences than just the features between the two. I'll have to say though, that the 150 is no slouch by any means, and the simpler of the two. But I'm really looking forward to seeing just what the 250's notching capabilities have to offer for jewelry hunting.

We had two dry days and it's back to raining. But when I did get out it was a mess. Everything was saturated, soggy, sloppy, slimy, flooded, and like trying to hunt in a swamp. The ground was like trying to dig in quick sand. After 30 days of unrelenting rain the ground gets rather full. We'll need about a week of sunshine to dry things out. It sucks.
