Happy holidays all and thanks for all the great posts to look at! I am a metal detectorist that lives in Montana, and am going to visit family in Florida for the holidays. I have a Whites M6, and mostly hunt coin and jewelry shooting. I am interested in taking my detector to the beach while I am there and was wondering if I could get any beach advice from the forum. Should I be detecting where people lay their towels, or at the water line? I have a 9.5 round coil and a 6x9 elliptical, which should I take? Any other advise that you could give me would be very much appreciated, Thanks in advance, and have a happy holiday season!

welcome to FL. Beach huntting here has been slim this year, but if you hunt the dry sand you might find a ring or two .If we have a strom hunt the cut and about 4 feet below it is a good place. If you get a good low tide hunt the wet sand . If you know what part of FL you are going to maybe you find some good sole to you out huntting. Happy huntting ,Ron Lord ,Naples FL

you might have some problems with your M6 on the wet salt sand it might want to false a lot.just turn down the sensitivity or stick to the dry sand.good luck.

Any other advice that you all could give me would be great! I am going to be in Vero Beach from the 20-27th of december, anyone in the area want to meet up for a hunt?

Good luck on the Vero Beach hunt. I was there in late October looking for 1715 Fleet stuff and we were very lucky. We found silver Real cobs, musket balls, a small cross, and a knee buckle. I did some posts on the Garrett site about the hunt that you might want to check out. Modern clad coins, and jewelry were almost non-existent. We spend many long hours swinging with no signals, but it was worth it. The weather should be better for you and you can hope for a good nor'easter.

I have found what works best for me,is the timing of when to hunt the beach. For me it has been. 4pm to 7pm. if the tide is low. that is when most people leave. Be there first.

new to metal detecting my self but i live near sebastian fl the 1715 beach sights are great to hunt its fun and the beaches are pretty empty there is a great map of beaches on treasuresites.net i believe thats it good luck godzilla

Yes luck is involved, but you have to be prepared to put the time in swinging the detector in the right places.. :detecting:

I'm prepared to put the time in swinging my detector, just having a hard time finding the right beaches to go to. Any advice of where I should go?

I really liked Corrigan's and Amber Sands. The Rio Mar site was also good. I met a guy at Rio Mar who told me about finding a thick gold ring that his jeweler told him was "several hundred" years old. He said that he found most of his good finds at the Rio Mar site. There is a book that I listed in one of my posts where the author gives coverage to each beach in the 1715 Fleet area. The book is worth buying, you can get it at either the McLarty or the Mel Fisher museums... good luck.
