Hey All, finally took the ATP out for its maiden 2015 turf cruise on 4/10. I've been working with another of my detectors the first couple of times out, doing very well each time on stupidly deep coins in one soggy area of a park that has been pounded. My stepson had lined a couple of very old properties for Friday and I love using the ATP first on sites that contain a large amount of iron trash and bits. After 10 minutes I swapped the stock coil for the 5x8". I managed a few wheat cents (incl 1911 & 21) but the ferrous crap was like a carpet - the iron audio was crazy as I listened for some mid and high tones. Deciding to walk around the property a bit I saw the shrubs were cut away long ago from the front of the foundation.
1754 Notice the absence of gutters? All that water pouring off the roof for eons created a washed out trench along the front foundation that I was slowly searching with the 5x8" coil. As I went along I looked down to my right while the coil was to my left and and I thought I'd have to change my shorts! She was face down among the sandstone chunks and gravel, I could read the "ONE CENT" while I was standing up - even with my eyes (good distance, poor up close). The nice thing is we are welcome back and the house next door (mid 1800's) and another 1700's dwelling nearby are on our menu. He's poked around his friend's house (mid 1800's next door to this)before, doing pretty well. I pulled some wheats from that yard too while there but have much more to search. I have just few dug LC's that compare to this one and dozens others that range from attributable to pure toast. The only cleaning this one received was a quick rinse under running water, no need to rub anything and just a treatment of Verdicare to inhibit the growth of verdigris. I will always remember finding this one. It's the plain cord, medium reverse letters variety. Here is a pic of some the other items from the same house.
