A Hunt In The Woods Got Not One, But two Rings Today :shocked:

What a super day in the woods, not to mention very successful too. Lots of loot, rings and other finds. I polished up all the older finds.

What a surprise this beautiful snake ring turned out to be. I got a good signal, about 4-5 inches deep, but under a large root. It took about 15 minutes to tunnel under it and get it out of the ground. After cleaning and polishing it, it turned out to be a very interesting ring. Looks like it was gold plated at one time.

And go figure.....not more then 20 feet from the first ring, out pops this ugly punk or goth ring. I would normally expect that point to be tucked under the ring, but in this case, it was above, and came to a sharp tip. I would not like to be the one who gets punched in the face from someone wearing that ring.

Buried near a tree, out pops this mouth piece to a trumpet or other musical instrument. I was hoping to find a make, patent or numbers on it to try and date it, but there weren't any.

Nice round brass ball, probably from a bed post, as it is too small to be a door knob, and it had a nail sticking out on the opposite end.

Too funny......finding a MacDonald's ashtray in the woods. But there it was, a couple of inches from the surface. Smoking has been banned from McDonald's for many years. This sure is a good conversation piece.

Gotta love those wood hunts. Those who regularly hunt the woods know what I am talking about.

Nice finds, John. I've never had much luck in the woods myself. Mostly junk with a few coins, but I hope this is going to change this week. I got written permission to hunt this old swimming hole and the owner mentioned there was an old church on the property and she had found a human skull as a child, much to her Mom's horror. I googled the name of this church and the google map showed me the location of the old church and I got down to about 50 meters with the map and there is nothing left that I could see. I also found out the road used to be about 50-75 feet from where it is now and that answered a question I had about this place. The google map showed the current road and bridge and where the old one used to be and I was wondering how the kids jumped off the bridge and went swimming without breaking their necks until I used the google map. Where the bridge used to be is a nice size swimming hole and it looks deep and this also keeps me from wasting my time at the new location. I do intend to do a look see up & down stream of this place and also have the land owner's permission to metal detect the church.
As always, I will not disturb the cemetery which has two souls buried there according to find a grave. com. HH I was going today, but like most days things happened beyond my control. I hope this Thursday, Friday and maybe Saturday to hit this spot and the river. I have decided to hit the river early at 8 am due to the increased amount of swimmers and this will hopefully avoid any hassle like the last time I went.
