A hollowed out Nickel and a cool cheap ring!

This is a first kind find for me. I have never metal detected a hollowed out (looks like a lathe job) coin and a copper cap for the back. It was very lightly soldered together when I dug it up from a park today and I was hoping for a piece of microfilm or something intriguing inside but there was just a little black residue in it. It's been the story of my life lately in digging up cheap costume jewellery but this one cleaned up nice. I was hoping it was rose gold but not this time! My 8 year old granddaughter will enjoy playing with it and can throw it in her collection!.

Congrats on the nickel. That is definitely unusual. Your granddaughter will enjoy that ring though...

Cool find on the nickel-----Good looking ring -----A guy I worked with 40+ yrs ago had showed me a trick. I forget how is goes now ,but a dime will fit inside the nickle. .--------after1-------

At the slight of hand change from nickel to a dime...

I had a nickle like that one years back when I was a kid. A small pin noble went through the nickle on the side opposite of the face. The brass cap was soldered on what was the face side of the nickle. Holding the coin under water squeeze the brass and release it would suck up water. It would squirt a good distance a nearly unseen stream. It was easy to convince someone to look see if it was a U.S. nickle or Canadian coin then squirt them in the eye. As an adult having a big short tempered coin collector look at your double strike nickle then squirt him in the eye turned into a run and duck event for me until he cooled down a little. Lost my squirt nickle and I was never able to replace it with one that worked that good. Maybe it was a good thing I lost my nickle I'm too old to run like that now.

Col nickel and the ring cleaned up well

Great finds & congrats! Your grandaughter will like the ring and that is an unusual nickel (very interesting) - thanks for the post, I enjoyed it. Wish you many more great finds dirt fishing.
