A Hi Ratio Of Finds In The Minelab Forums

E-Trac-Ohio

Well-known member
Over the Winter I spent a lot of time reading forum posts on metal detectors manufactured by various companies.

Not to sound negative - but it seems like the 90% of the posts in most of these forums are about how good the machines are, settings, accessories, etc.
But when you go to the Minelab forums it seems like 90%. posts are stories and photo's of finds that were actually made with the machines.

Just an observation - don't want to get anyone ticked off !

Facts are facts .............. Results are proof in my evaluation of the detectors..

Etrac is the standard which all machines are compared to

Best advice I ever got off any of these forums was from a guy that got booted from one forum on here. He said "just read every forum on here and look at the finds, that'll tell you what the machines are good at". I listened to him and looked and got an Etrac......

I don't kill the coins like some but my 1 st yr. with the trac my silver increased exactly 60% over the previous yr with my "other" machine..... I also dig nickels now with pretty good success where previously I had to notch them out because of the trash that comes with them, previous machine just didn't give me the info needed or the depth.

I'm not a 'Labber, but your post is interesting to me. :clapping: I also read many posts on ALL detectors that I can for tips and knowledge and entertainment too! I try to see the 'Patterns' you mentioned as well..'what strengths does this rig have?' etc...and like you said, the proof is in the finding....

Is it the bow or the Indian or a bit of each?

The super successful 'Labbers I know are excellent hunters, they are also very Rabid about the Sport, out often and hunt smart...they do great research and pay attention to detail, committed and addicted to their desired target. They understand how when and why things get lost and have a great nose for sites. I'm wondering if the Lab rigs, not at all being an introductory or 'turn on and go' machine, attract a certain type of character trait? An Advanced piece of gear that a person with elevated skills gravitates towards eventually as they gain an understanding and deeper passion, such as in any pursuit oriented sport...?

I dont know, just maybe something more about the persons skills combined with the gears strengths..? Probably a lot of other variables as well like location/target preference? One of the best 'labbers I know...you can find him in a totlot one day, in the water the next, and perhaps doing a curbstrip later in the week..the guy knows his rig and knows metal...more importantly, he is addicted to the hunt!....he rarely posts, but Lord does he find! Anyway, a guy sure likes to see results since this is a performance/reward kind of sport...so anybody that puts up big numbers and pictures is a person to emulate no matter what rig they swing....

Hard to say, theres some really great hunters on this Forum swinging all sorts of various rigs, and I'm sure theres a lot of various rigs bought on impulse and sitting in a closet..no matter how great the gear, it wont find anything sitting in the house....You 'Labbers have an active and wonderful forum of excellent hunters and never let us down with your performance!:clapping: Be careful though, dont throw out a 'gold chain challenge' or a 'mega clad grab' because you 'Labbers would be sure to lose both!

Including the CTX

I stated this awhile back to someone looking at different brands. This also the biggest reason I own the etrac and not a similar priced different brand. I tried to compare apples to apples as far as price went. Anything in the etracs price range did not have the finds being posted, this led me to believe the etrac is a more capable machine. I felt that other users with 2000 dollars of equipment were dedicated, smart, and passionate about this hobby and yet were not posting finds like the etrac fourm I own an etrac for this exact reason.

A lot of people that have cheaper machines don't do much detecting , they are a lot of the time people that buy a cheapie to see how the hobby goes then fall by the wayside . The rest of us move up to more expensive machines .
Though not all people buy the most expensive and a lot of people don't have very good land or beaches.

The Minelab machines are amongst the top machines but they are not the best at everything , nearly but not all.
Many others do well , the Deus out numbers Minelabs in UK 8 to 1 or even higher sometimes on digs . Fishers along with Whites and Garrett are rarer here and most others are either back up machines except a number of newer machines that have come out lately .
My most successful machine at the moment is the X.Terra 705 which I use on the beach 75% of the time , in fact the ET hasn't had much time out at all this year and the Explorer is in reserve , the Deus is new and I have not been on land this year yet and the AT Pro is new last week .
In the next month I will get a Go Find 60 and see what that does .

Minelab's are a very good type but I think they need to do more to stay at the top of their game or they will be overtaken by others .

yep the etrac sure is a fantastic machine

Yep and from my observation it seems like the E-Trac forum features more good finds on a regular basis than any of the other Minelab forums, CTX 3030 included (not biased as I own both the E-Trac & CTX 3030). Maybe it's just because more people own E-Tracs than other metal detectors :)

I've been saying the exact same thing for years. Nice to see someone else notice the same thing. :detecting:

I think as others have already alluded to, these things are so dam expensive that they attract the more serious detectorists.
Detectorists who are willing to research and dig to justify their investment.

Its like most start out with the cheap detectors and after finding the thousandth pull tab, give it up.
On the other hand, those with dog'ed determination and the will to succeed at this hobby progress up to the better machines.
Could be that simple. Not taking anything away from the eTRAC as it has served me well over the years.

Go BIG or go home! Nice to hear from you DOC. Really hunt with what you feel comfortable with cause it is just a hobby. HH :minelab::fisher::teknetics:

I find as much or more with other machines over the etrac, i just never post about it.. I know people are finding things , im more interested in how other machines are running than anything.. Look at how long ive been a member and then look at my post count. My thoughts are this, if ya have a special little find you wanna show then cool but to show all or most of your finds i feel can be a hazard to the hobby.. Just my opinion.. I have friends that had etracs and did find goodies but never posted, and now they have moved on to other machines and find just as much but still dont post their finds.

That was before the Etrac and CTX. But still the same, more finds posted on explorer forum than all the others combined. I suspect if they still sold them it would still be the same. And the XS is still my go to detector, just less people swinging them now.

Good post, and a good topic...and responses. I've seen that as well OPEN, there is always someone posting finds on this forum than most IMO... another interesting thing about the Etrac, is that it really is such a User friendly Detector.

I love my machine, Diga
