These postcards also tell you a bit about usage, activity centres, grades, shoreline contours, changes over time... You can also localize your search.

Good Tip CJC, and A great resource :thumbup:

One other way to find alittle history of your beach is check out the local hotels. Many of the older hotels have Original pictures of the early days which can really give you some history of the area. Here are a few.....

And the second picture (Crystal Beach) was hanging at a Marina which had replaced the beach in the 60's.
 
Thanks, OBN--that's a good point. A lot of little shops and resteraunts will have achival photos on the walls. I'ts amazing what you can learn from them--who went to a location--where they sat--how deep they went...how deep the water was...
