a good signal on the Excel

In a trashy area what do you consider a good, dig-able signal with the ID Excel?

What I mean is: Do you dig the one-way or two-way-only blips? Or, must it be a consistent multi-directional (X-pattern) hit?

And, how do you handle multiple signals close together?

Thanks for any comments,
EC

A good repeatable signal will lock on the digital meter from all directions with a good tone.Though yesterday occasionally I couldnt get a repeatable signal from left to right and the numbers would jump into the negative area. Finally located a clad dime.Dont know if there was iron present. If it gives a good signal from left to right I usually dig it without checking from ninety degrees.Multiple signals close togehter if they are near the surface I would use the pinpoint mode or use my uniprobe to locate the targets if I cant find it with a screwdriver.Hope this helps:))

multiple, overlapping signals in a real trashy site are just going to take alotta time to figure out how to best handle it. This may take several hours in the field to become good at it. I'll try to explain how I do it, but your really going to have to put the time in.
First in thick, thick iron you have to become focused on the meter. Watch all the negatives & when you see a + number sneak in, I try to isolate it & investigate. When in doubt I dig. That
-36 disc setting we have been talking about is a big help in trash too. Listen closely for a high tone that may slip in amid the iron lows....combine that with a + on the meter & that's how I can pull goodies outta the trash.
But, I always caution people if your a new Excel or C$ user to NOT take it to their trasiest site right away. You really need to be familiar with the machine first or you'll hear & see so much it will overwhelm you :stars:...HH< Bill
