A good problem

I have had my X-70 for a year and really enjoy it. I am truly bitten by the bug. I want to buy another detector. I hunt primarily for coins in the oldest areas I can find. They are often trashy with mineralized soil. Want to buy something to help me see through the trash better. I have been reading up on the explorer and the E-trac and am more confused than ever. I would value some input from the great people on this site with pros and cons of these two and any other (comparable price wise) good option.

Thanks in advance for your input.

Get the 18,75 kHz 6" DD coil for your XT70 and you'll not only find those coins among the trash but also save a dollop of money

Don't know anything about the Etrac but I have been using my Explorer XS for about 6 years.
If you are hunting old house places and parks, there is no other detector that can provide better ID on signals than the Explorer. Needless to say it is a top performing detector, it does very well in trashy areas whether ferrous and/ or non-ferrous.
A few of the "cons" are that it is heavier than what you have now, it takes longer to master than most other detectors and it doesn't always pinpoint as well as detectors using concentric coils.
You could get a good used Exp2 or XS (get the latest version) for a reasonable price to find out if it's your cup of tea or not, multi-frequency detectors are different and it may be a good compliment to your X-terra.
I think it is the best overall performing full featured detector out there but I may be biased:biggrin:

I love my X-70 and will never give it up. I want to have a second detector with different strengths. I don't have a back up yet. I understand the learning curve will be greater on the detectors listed. I will have the time and inclination to learn. I just want to pick the right detector.

Just looking to take advantage of others experiences and knowledge

I have owned more than a dozen detectors. When my wife bought my XT-70,I was very happy, and she knew I had 5 detectors at the time.I made some good finds with my XT70.More so than my other detectors, but than again,I used it a little more too.
Just this year ,my hunting partner introduced me to another minelab user.He used an Explorer SE....He had learned to use it well, and told me if he got a deep signal he would call me over to see if my XT-70 could see it. On 3 occasions he called me over, and I could not hear the target.I even maxed out my sens.,and not a peep. Over the next few weeks,in desperation.I brought my other 5 detectors out, until I had tested them all out on deep silver signals he had found. The only 2 detectors I had at the time that I could get an Audio on the deepies were.My Compass Goldscanner, and Compass Coinscanner, and ONLY when I had the 12" coil attached.Even then they would not give a correct meter reading, although my Coinscanner would occasionally give the correct High tone.He told me he just ordered an Etrac (Sept then),and I challenged him to find just 2 buried silvers in my back yard (where my XT-70 can only go to 16 sens before becoming a little unstable). He looked at my yard where there are power lines within 20 foot, and said this IS a good challenge. He found 4 of my silvers (Even though I cannot find them with a detector---I know where they are approximately buried). So,even though he found them with an SE,I bought the newest Tech (E-Trac),and haven't looked back.My silver count shot way up from the normal 1-2 silver a month on sidewalk tear outs.To 10 this month in 3 parks.
My friend's go by GOIO,and tmanfromtexas.Check out their post on the Illinois ,T-Net forum to verify their finds.Since getting and learning to use his Explorer SE in march.....................actually Digging Silver starting June.............to his Etrac Purchace in Sept. He found 182 silvers as of yesterday. He posted last week or so,his watermark 150th silver, and the other 149 as well.
If money is your concern, you might think about going to EBay,and bidding on an Explorer SE Pro (with the new 11" coil)....They are going pretty cheap IMHO

Or look at the Minelab Musketeer Advantage with the CoilTek 15" DD WOT(Kellyco has a 14" Excellerator coil available for it too). It can cover alot more ground than the Explorer SE (also E-Trac, Quattro, and Sovereign GT) FBS and BBS units and can hunt about 2 or 3 times faster for large farm fields and low trash homesteads and goes DEEP.

But if you are hunting in town and the city in high trash areas you are much better off with an Explorer SE or E-Trac over a Musketeer Advantage.
