hello all, i went sunday to another new spot near the five forks battlefield in petersburg, va. the guy has 30 acres and is just as cool as a cucumber! "bring me a case 'o beer, and you can hunt all you want! anytime you want!" oh yeah, fellas, it was on - so i had a little while to myself in the woods. olddigger couldn't join me, having obligations. there's a natural spring on the property, so i figure it was a good watering spot for the men and the horses.
i got tired of digging old horseshoes and plowshares and started to concentrate on those short and sweet beeps we like to hear! couldn't walk 2 feet without a good deep iron hit! must be a bunch of shrapnel there too. i found seven bullets total, and all are different except for the two sharps! that's unusual! a nice lil' piece of buck and ball with the sprues, a nice spencer case, a mangled shot bullet, a three ringer, a .44 cal. ball, and some odd brass pieces rounded out the day. found a very old iron buckle too.
'course now, the landowner was happily chuggin'; his beers down and watching the race! "c'mon back anytime!" he said. man, how often does that happen? oh,and we will! a 1975 penny {what!?} was the odd find of the day. i believe it's a good spot, and deserves a better look with olddigger. you never know, my friend, there just might be a nice "C" button or a nice beltplate waiting for us there! yeehaw! hh,
