GRAY GHOST

New member
hello all, went out today for 3 or so hours, and found some interesting stuff. an old file knife , broken, was the first find. 2 small brass buckles, 1 small flatbutton, a .31 cal. pistol ball, i believe a kepi buckle, an old brass thimble, 2 percussion caps, a couple of unidentified brass items on top,[they remind me of u.s. bit bosses] 2 .69 cal. star base 3 ringers, and 1 shot .58 enfield. the holed semi - circular brass piece on top not sure of either, might be a boot cleat. if anybody knows, i'd appreciate it. its been a good day, tired now! thanks for looking, yer probably tired of seeing my posts, but detecting is in my blood, and i cant help it! hh,

He aint gonna be famous much longer. At least I got him out of the field, I hate them thangs...d2

Nice day Gray Ghost! The brass piece at the very top is a boot heel cap. The large buckle is unusual. I've never found one like that.

Mr Seitz

I checked out your pictures on the bottles you collected from the Privy digging and I'm quite impressed. You must have quite a collection of bottles. I collect bottles myself, but haven't come close to the digging you have accomplished. Nice finds!!!!

Looks like dinner to me. All I see is a large plate, mashed potatoes, gravy, corn and an unlimited supply of meat. HE (Happy Eating).

The top, circular piece is actually a toe tap. Check the very end of it as they are typically stamped with a date of Nov. 29, 1859. These stampings are weak so don't be disappointed if you can't find yours.

The items flanking the toe tap and on the second row outside are boot heel plates. And it looks as if you've dug a matching pair by the looks of the design. There are various designs cut into these pieces.

Very nice finds.

Richard
