Found this 1890-1905 era baggage tag yesterday! Still doing a little research but it appears tied to a territorial livery business.

Thats a quality find, not your everyday find like coins etc,bet your well pleased with that.

that is is a nice find,

I have seen posted in a while. Some posts have multiple items found, which is great, but while I enjoy finding (and seeing found) older-dated coins, I especially enjoy finding small targets that tell a story.

One of my favorite classes of finds are 'Good For' type Trade Tokens, especially the non-mavericks because they tie in a piece of historic activity with a specific location, be it a state, or town in the state. A very close second are old watch fobs, key tags, baggage tags, badges, etc., that do the same. In this case it is even nicer to see, for me, because I am a native Utahan.

Nice find, Congrats! I'm always curious of the type of sites where nice targets were found. No 'X' marks the spot, just a rough description of the type of location hunted?

Best of success on future hunts.

Monte

PS: Curious which search coil and settings were used?

Thanks for the kind words Monte! I also especially like the tokens and items with a identity and story to them. If research so far is correct, this baggage tag would have come from an old livery/freighter business working closely with the railroad. It was found at an iron infested 1890's home not far from where a railgrade once existed. I was using the litte 5" coil with sens near max and discrim just above "rock". It wasn't super deep, maybe 4".

Good Hunting to you also!
