I am looking to buy a good digit camera to use to the family to take all kind from finds to post, up to land shot. It most be user friendly and not to costly. I need some help here.

Thanks

I use two type both excelant models

Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ2 older model about $250 when new
Nikon Coolpix S230 Touchscreen LCD for $159 new and both use SD cards
I think you can't go wrong with either models

I would agree with Joel on the Lumix..........You can find some pretty good deals on the BIG WEB auction site...............vance

make sure the macro function focus's down to 1.2" or 3cm for good close up posting shots. 10mp or better. there are plenty out there for $149. just picked up a canon sd1200 from costco for $149 complete kit.

whatever you get make sure the software is compatible with your operating system . i have an older sony dsc 550 , takes great pictures but wont upgrade to vista . kinda sad as i liked it .

Check out the FUJIFILM - FinePix 10.0-Megapixel Digital Camera at the usual Best electronics store. They are waterproof and are pretty easy to use and are on sale for $149.99. The Waterproof feature is what got me, because I want to shoot videos at the beach while hunting the surf.

Hey Doc, had a similar situation with an older Cannon when I had to get a new computer. The solution for me was to get a card reader and simply take the memory card out of the camera and use the card reader to download the pictures.
Card readers are 25 to 35 bucks.

MDUNN ;

I cant thank you enough for the advice !!! today i tried your trick out and it worked like a charm . already had the card reader in this computer but i never knew what it was for . I guess there's just too many generation gaps twixt me and it . so anyhow i'm now back in business with pictures again . never would have figured it out on my own . hope you find plenty nuggets .
Many Thanks
"Ole Doc."

Glad it worked for you Doc.
By the way I really like my Sony Cyber-Shot. easy to use and great pictures I think.
have a couple of friends with the Panasonic mentioned and it's a great camera too.
Lots of choices.

Just today I used my new Fujifilm 33WP digital camera for the first time.

I bought it after reading your post (thanks for the heads up!!) and researching the five "water-proof" point and shoot cameras by various popular brands.

This one is generally only $149.00 where sold (the least expensive available) and had all the features I will ever need and then some.

It's water-proof to 10 feet and has a movie mode should I ever need it.

It fits in a normal sized pocket and is easy to handle.

There are a variety of colors available.

My main concern was splashing and I don't plan to take "under-water" pics.

There is a caution about sand and dirt getting into the microphone and if not rinsed off carefully, compromising the water-proof seal.

It will surely not take a lot of "abuse", but then I have never owned a camera that could except a couple of old Nikon Fs and even they were not water-proof!

Here are a couple of pics of the beach where I hunt taken at 2PM today with a NW Breeze blowing and temps in the high 20's and low 30'sF

Here are a couple of youngsters who have to be some-what "off kilter" to be out trying to surf even on a sunny day like today given the small waves and very low temps!!

The camera was hand held by these 68 year old hands and the pics edited to fit the page.

The camera has a macro setting and when used it's best to set up a tripod for clear shots.

I am impressed with this little jewel, the first camera I bought for myself since 1974!

Regards,

CJ

PS I had one complaint that I almost forgot to mention because I was so impressed with everything else the camera does.

The screen is barely visible in bright light conditions and there is no view-finder!

I managed never the less to frame my shots fairly well!

As a follow-up to the above reply here are a couple of sun-rise shots I got this AM.

The first was just after the sun peeked over the horizon and the second was a couple of minutes later when it cleared the horizon!

The tide was an hour from high and headed out, the water very calm and the stone is barely visible.

I'm really enjoying this little camera!

Best to all you hunters,

CJ

A clean, used digital SLR (any model) with a big macro lens can't be beat. This Nikon D70 is over five years old.

The Fuji has a short section of the users manual devoted to the macro function of the lens.

In macro mode it is very hard to hold any camera steady and a tripod is necessary for really sharp pics.

Using the flash can help though.

If I can get together a few shots I'll post them.

How would I know if it has a micro lens

Macro lenses are manufactured and sold as such. They are made specifically for close-up phototography and do not focus beyond 5-10 feet. I always use a tripod, like when I took a pic of the Chain cent above.

The Fuji WP being a pocket digital camera without interchangeable lenses has a "macro" mode built in.

I hand held for this shot, but tossed several because they were not sharp enough!!

The flash helped!

A tripod would have saved me the trouble!

I mainly use a Lumix TZ5
My beat up cameras are the inexpensive Canon A470, and old Olympus FE-140.
My digital SLR's are to bulky for me to carry around, so they always sit and always look good, like they day I bought em.
One of my kids hasn't returned my Canon SD-1200 yet.
Maco for close ups - point & shoot for simplicity. I like the easy route.
Google camera reviews provides some good info

You talked me into it. I looked at the Z33WP Au Target. The water proof to 10ft helped too because i have messed to two cell phones in my shirt pocket due to rain. It my age i have been known to drop some thing a water that can't Swim, Thank you everyone
