A Golden finds Silver  :detecting:

I met two of my local hunting buddies, Big Cat Daddy and Skillet for breakfast this morning. After catching up on the latest chat and cleaning our plates, we decided to hit an old Civil War era camp area that over the years has produced a few good finds. There is a new Triple A Stadium built on top of the area so we decided to hit a huge open field near the complex. Not much turned up there so apparently there were no buildings or structures from the 1900's. I was using my MXT with the 9.5 coil, Skillet was using a Explorer and BCD was using a Garrett. After coming up with a bust except for some junk items and iron we decided to go to another area of the park that has large number of soccer fields none of which were being used. I switched over to the Golden uMAX with the 5.75 and the others switched to other detectors. About 20 minutes into the hunt I got a good signal and about an inch down came up a nice .925 silver bracelet. Skillet came up with a nice .925 silver ring and we all found clad and the usual junk! We had a good day of hunting and laughs. There was a guy flying around in a powered hang glider and a group of folks flying RC airplanes. That was neat. Weather was sunny and warm and a good time was had by all. Looking forward to the next hunt. I didn't get many pictures but I did take one of the bracelet. BCD will probably post something on the Garret Forum on the other site. The Golden was sure nice to swing after spending 4 hours on the MXT! Happy Hunting, TonyTX :)

Nice bracelet Tony.

Sounds like you all had a good old time.

HH,

Hi TD, We had a good time but finds were slim. I found a small handful of clad and a bunch of junk (PTs, foil, and can slaw). The bracelet was not very deep at all, maybe a half inch to inch. Rang out pretty solid so I dug it. Skillet found a nice silver ring at the soccer fields. Big Cat Daddy usually finds all the good stuff but he ended up with a handful of clad today. Weather was really nice, actually warm after hunting awhile. I had hoped that the big open field would have turned up something but its like a needle in a hey stack. A number of folks have found some older coins, three ringers, Henry casings and such. I've found a dropped three ringer and a nice old buckle near that spot. We had fun and got some good exercise to boot! Take it easy TD and catch you later, TonyTX :)

Congrats on the silver! I think chains can be hard to find. The can read eratic on a VID machine. I am still waiting on my Vaquero :veryangry: I hope it comes this week, Beale.

Nice hunt Tony TX - glad that one didn't elude the Golden - must be a good weight difference between the Golden and MXT - Golden for silver

Tab-nabit, You got that right. Very easy to swing as are most of the Tesoro detectors... Thanks and HH, TonyTX

Beale, Yea chains can be funny. This one gave a nice solid tone. Man hope the V gets there quick so you can start swinging it! :detecting: Thanks, HH TonyTX :)

Those kind of days are great. Sounds like the Golden hit it for you again! Possibly the most underrated detector in the Tesoro line. It's funny but when you hunt with any of the big TID units and then switch to the Tesoro you really appreciate how light they are. Congrats!
Pap

Hey Pap ... I like this detector. If I had brought the stock coil along instead of the 4 and 5.75 I'd have used it entirely. Guess I gotta give the MXT a little TLC every now and then !! I think you are right about the Golden and weight. Sure had a good time with my detecting buds and I'm looking forward to the next hunt! :detecting: HH TonyTX :)

The Golden will do it. A chain is no small feat for any detector, even though a silver one is a tad easier.
I love my Golden for exactly the sort of detecting you are talking about... I call it "The Crusier," a name I first heard from Mike Hillis.

Even if you had found nothing, you were in good company. BCD and Skillet are legends and at the very least, they know the good places to eat!

Hey dahut ... The Golden sure pulled through,g. The "Crusier" is pretty catchy :) You are certainly right, when I'm hunting with those two, a good time is sure to be had. Both are seasoned detectorist and I'm liable to learn something new while having a good time. And when it comes to eats, you hit the nail on the head. That BCD and Skillet can sure sniff out those BBQ joints! Thanks for the post.... HH TonyTX :)

RMPTR, Thanks! I found it about 20 minutes into the hunt at the soccer field. Not deep maybe an inch at most. The Golden gave a nice signal and up she came...
thanks and HH, TonyTX :)

By golly that's inspirational to make a nice discovery right off the bat, isn't it?

Still no joy for me, but the Tabdog keeps showing me how it should be done!
