It is about the size of a quarter, and the back is plain... unless you count the place where a clasp of some sort might have been.

Any help would be appreciated.

The long date is a mystery to me. The "Great War" lasted from 1914-1918 in my books. Maye it was given to soldiers who where posted there until 1919.

Nice find.

1859

PS: After looking at a lot of medals I get a sense that this is hand made. The typical medal of this period is made with high relief and is much more elaborate. This one looks more like it was engraved by a silver smith, carve out and probably enameled over the flag. Belgie and Belgique are just Belgium in 2 different languages that are spoken there.

It does look to be very well made for a private silversmith. The lion does intrigue me. It looks to be the British lion with maybe the flag of Britain and Belgium??

anyway, many thanks for the effort.
