A flower from Stanilaus National Forest:smile:

I took this photo while on a 8.5 mile out and back hike in Stanislaus National Forest towards the end of June 2012. I had some free time so decided to take a multi-day trip up into the high Sierras. It took quite a few hours to get there, but I eventually got there and it was great.

On the way back from the hike I came across a group of these flowers so I decided to try out the Kodak macro mode, and this was the result, non-Photoshopped.

The scenery up there was great and I would have taken more pics, but the common noon thunder clouds started rolling in and I did not want to be on a giant exposed granite rock any longer than needed. This is the best photo I was able to get that day.

I love hiking in the high Sierras, and you could go a lifetime without hiking the same trails. There are also many camping and fishing oppurtunities up there, with the dozens of stunning lakes. If you have never had the opputunity to come and see the high Sierras, then come on over. It is absolutely beautiful up here.

Thank you Kelley for the complement. I have been meaning to upload this photo for a while, but being on vacation slowed me down. HH

Roscue2,

That is a beautiful flower, with great color. I know very little about flowers, but would be i nterested in knowing if you have shown it around and have found out what kind it is?

Great shot!

I use a Nikon D300 with vertical grip, 50 mm f 1.8, Tokina 12-24 mm f4, Nikon 18-200 mm, Nikon 70 - 200mm f 2.8 VR, Sigma 150 mm Macro, Nikon 300 mm f4, Kenco 1.4, Nikon 1.7, SB 800 and 2 SB600 plus a few filters and a CP-1 circular polarizer. I am primarily interested in wildlife and landscap photography. I just found this forum. I'm also into metal detecting.

Not sure how my post got here! I thought I was posting in the thread - What kind of camera are you using? I guess I did something wrong. Sorry.

Well Nestor, I wish I had asked one of the people I was hiking with what type of flower it was, but I didn't for some reason. Maybe if I get it printed I will be able to ask one of them if they know what type of flower it is. HH
