wow, that was too close! did he strike at you? one thing I learned way back in scouts, never step over a log, look over it the step up on it. Now days i can investigate with my coil before I even get that close.
 
man I dont know how I didnt get bit! The Lord was wachting over me that day I had to step on him I dont see how I didnt.
 
Glad you didn't get bit . I stepped out of my truck in my driveway a few days ago about 8:30 to 9 at night . I just happened to turn on a flashlight when I got out of the truck , which is something I never do , and there was a 2 1/2 to 3 foot Copperhead about 2 feet from my foot . Scared the crap out of me . He wasn't bothered by me either , but i flattened his head with a piece of angle iron . Stay aware out there .
