A first for me

Was in the woods in NJ 3 hours today. First coin was a 1853 Half Dime, my first half dime, couldn't believe it, kept looking at it saying "I found a half dime, my first half dime". Then found two IH pennies and a British Cartwheel. The cartwheel is huge, much bigger than a large penny. In the 1970's I found a 1797 cartwheel in much better condition at an old house near me, they a rare to find. The Halfdime was 6-8" deep, the cartwheel no more than 3" deep, the Indian heads at least 6" deep. This area was a plowed field on an old farm years ago, the farm is gone, now its all woods easy to search, no briar or other bushes. I will be going back soon, hope to find more old silver. Was using the CoinStrike with 8" coil.

Mike, you're just a greeny. It took me 40 years. Jabbo

Great find for you ! It took me about 15 years and it's been 15 years since . The cartwheel sounds neat, Steve in so az

Here's the monster cartwheel next to a large penny. The cartwheel is 1/8" smaller than a silver dollar. Cartwheels were made only in 1797.

I just looked up British pennies on the internet, this one is not a cart wheel penny, but a 1805 or 1806 King George III penny. The one I found 40 years ago had the very wide rim all around and 1797 date, a real cart wheel. This one has no wide rim and is thinner than a cart wheel, head facing right. I thought corrosion ate the rim away.

and today. Found some skeleton keys, five Indian heads, (one fatty), a badly corroded shield nickle, and 2 large pennies. The large penny on the left has no detail. The one on the right you can see Lady Liberty sitting. On the back is a figure of a man standing. Only - - 82 is the visible date, the date is under the lady. Not a US coin, when you flip it over the figure is not upside down, as with US coins. I see CANADA on the side with the man standing. The die cast thing with US is part of something but don't know what. Many acres there to search, hope to find more fun stuff. Seems to be virgin territory. Lots of tall weeds right now over most of the area.

Super finds!
Two of those keys appear to be clock keys.

You east coast guys have all the good stuff.
