I dug this at a colonial site I've been working. Its a badge of some kind. Its hard to see in the pictures but it has two holes (one in each wing) in it, I'm assuming to maybe run a needle of some kind threw to attach it to your shirt/coat or maybe the two holes are to hang something down from it like another metal object (maybe its part of a medal). Anyway, I'm hoping someone here has found one or something like it and can shed some light on what it is. Please help! Anything is welcomed even guesses. ALso, whats the best way to clean it.

Don't know what it is. I have 2 methods of cleaning brass and copper that's corroded like that.
1. Put a couple of ounces of peroxide in a coffee cup or small jar and heat in the microwave until it boils. (About a minute or so.)
Drop the object in and let it set until the peroxide is cool. You'll see all kinds of bubbles comming off of it.
Clean with an old toothbrush. Repeat process as necessary.
2. Tumble object in a rock tumbler with a little aquarium gravel. Add a little non-sudsing soap (Arm and Hammer Super Washing Soap) and water.
Tumble for an hour or so and check progress. Change soap and water as necessary.
Anytime you remove corrosion such as this, the surface may end up pock marked, as it has eaten into the surface.
Hope this has helped, & would like to see a pic of what this is.

First off, it looks like you may have something there. Just ain't quite sure what. Secondly, no offense intended, but you seem...interested in the value of this item. Pay Attention! You get one chance with a heavily encrusted piece to get it right and have a great find or a piece of scrap.
Research electroylsis. Look at pros and cons of different recipes. Look at chemical hazards. I use a saturated sodium chloride solution and a six volt lantern battery for small items. Works great as long as you give pieces a long rinse.
Don't be afraid of asking for help or info.
