A few relics No coins??

Hey guys and girls,

My buddy and I have been knocking on doors, driving 50 to 70 miles to hunt. We get on old properties 1870- 1920s, but we had not gotten ANY coins.
Well, modern change and Wheaties but nothing past 1943 and no silver. He hunts with a Mxt and i Etrac are we doing something wrong?( and yes I use TTF all the time)
Every place on a property that we can stick are coil in we stuck it, We do get nice relics the pic below are the ones I found. He is skittish about posting he goodies on line.

Please Guys and Girls any help you can offer would be nice

how long have you used the etrac? I am merely throwing a guess out here, but from your pictures, looks like most of your items are bigger targets, easy to get type signals.....maybe your swinging to fast and missing the coins.

I owed the etrac for about 2years 4 months, I can kill a tot lot and hunt civil war relics with the best, but my silver count sucks. I get silver rings and charms,but the coins keep missing me.
I dig a target in ttf and will pull out a nail but no coin, I will hunt a old homesite and pull wheaties from 7-9 inches all day long. I bought the swingy thing but maybe I will try slowing down my swing speed. My buddy has a mxt and he is covering ground and I am afriad of getting left behind. I use the 6inch ddeq2 coil the stock coil for me is too iffy. I put on the stock coil and hunted a small section of this civil war site, and put back on the 6dd and picked up 3 bullets. Dont get me wrong I love my etrac, but I see everybody pulling mad silver coins and wondering when will I pull some silver. I use the stock coin mode, and the relic mode(ttf)

P.S My etrac can bust out gold. I hunt the dry sand with the etrac and the water with the tirger shark.

ok first quit worrying about your partners hunting speed.....whites can be swung faster than an etrac, but I also know I owned a MXT before I had the etrac and the etrac will do way better. The etrac is designed to to swing SLOW, at minimum 1 second per swing. If it is trashy or real high iron even slower!

Have you ever thought possibly the places your getting wheaties but no silver were possibly hunted before and someone cherry picked for the silver? It is VERY hard to find virgin sites anymore, even on private property.

Sometimes there are no old coins there even on an old site, and it is a canard that if you find wheaties you will find silver, like Goes said maybe been cherry picked or maybe they just did not have much silver to drop. Patience and slow swing time down, listen and dig some "iffy" signals.

Hey,

Thank for the tips, I will slow down my swing speed. My buddy and I were talking about the properties we hit may have been cherry picked. We find all the lower co-Fe targets but no high co-Fe targets.Plus we try to get on properties that look good.(white fence, big live oak trees etc..). I am going to suggest we look at some of ugly properties that are in the same age or later.

Good ideas! I have found that the houses that look GREAT also looked good to everyone else and are probably already been detected, look for the run down not so nice looking places, sometimes those are where I score the most finds!

totally! thats why research is so important. good looking old places along main roads have been beat to death. the "drive around until we see something that looks good" research method has beat up those particular spots. I know, my dad and I used it exclusively in the 80's

some of the best places left nowadays are those that cant be seen from the road or just dont look like anything special. its all on the internet, old maps, old photos, stories of the past, etc. i enjoy sipping coffee and just researching on weekend mornings. I have more potential sites than I could hope to cover. A lot of the time theyre a bust, but sometimes you get lucky!

also to follow up on the cherry picking theme, if i get really tired and its getting near the end of the hunt, i start to ignore COs below 44, i just get tired of digging penny after penny sometimes. the older i get, the less endurance i have. i figure i can get them again next time or let some other guy have it. I KNOW i might be missing something good but its all about the odds. i can only go about 4 hours and them im just beat.

Silver is hard to find. if your hitting clad you will hit the silver too. location location location!
