A few questions about settings, filters etc.

I have heard that there are only a few settings that really affect the V3i's depth. I have been trying different combinations and have gotten mixed results. I am in East Tennessee and the ground here varies greatly. I also predominately hunt old home sites, cellar holes and the occasional battle/skirmish field. RX Gain, TX Boost, Sensitivity and the like are no problem.

Setting the filter and recovery delay for optimal speed and depth has proven a challenge though. I can't seem to find the right combination.
In particular I am looking for advice on how to reach the best compromise between target separation and depth when hunting in nail infested sites. I would really appreciate any setting suggestions from anyone that hunts similar sites.

Lastly, other than TX Boost, Sensitivity, RX Gain, Frequency and Ground Balance, which controls have a direct impact on the depth/performance of the V3i?

Thanks in advance.
Chris

It will detect targets considerably deeper than Discriminate Mode, however you will get a headache in nail infested sites.

Another thing that can have an impact on depth is your Discrimination range. If you only accept the positive numbers you can miss deep small targets especially in iron infested areas. I accept all the way down to -40. If you discriminate out the nails and some iron, you will also miss what is next to it. -40 seems to be a good compromise and i have found some nice coins next to iron this way.

Well for me and I am about as green on this machine as one can be...But for me I did use a higher filter 10 and a fast recovery 45. I can sweep the 10 DD faster then I thought in my ground. I am going to try mixed mood I would think that would help also but won't know till I try it now I would have AM and Dics working together. If you have bad ground with a lot of EMI you can try salt compensate and normal soil and see if that helps and the play with your offset in your freq box.

Thanks guys, being a Nautilus user I run stereo mixed mode all the time. I will try the high pass 10 filter and 45 recovery. I have set it as low as 15 and it responds like an F75 there. I will also give the salt compensate and normal soil settings as well to see how they affect the response to highly mineralized ground.

Any other suggestions?

Chris

45 is about as low as you want to go before you start to lose some ID information.

Depth loss as well.
