A Few Questions About Minelab & X-Terra 50

After reading your post I understand your concern.
I live in Canada and when I tried to fill in the on-line form for the new CD, it didn't allow me to put a Canadian address in for some reason. It would only accept States. So I emailed Minelab customer service in th eUS and told them my problem and address. THey sent me the CD and info.
If you email Dick Shultz at DShultz@minelabusa.com I am sure you will get results. He has always personally replied to my requests and I have been very satisfied.
Good luck and HH
MM

I'm sorry you have had the trouble getting the CD Dirt-Digger. One of my customers sent off for the same deal and had no trouble in getting it and purchased an X-TERRA 50 from me. PM me if need be. CU later Dirt-Digger. God Bless.

I believe detector prices will be the same at each dealer. I suspect the price is controlled by the manufactuer. Dealers will give you stuff as an incentive to buy from them. Much of the stuff is not needed or wanted or of much value. If you find that I am wrong email me. I am looking for that dealer.

As a dealer I think it is good that I am contacted, that a customer has interest in a product. Minelab will send out a lead to the local dealer. In case you need local support.

There are many very good dealers that know the product line(not only one manufacture). Many are willing to help with all questions and concerns, even service after the sale. I personally help when a repair is needed.
I find it surprising that you did not get a reply from Minelab. You should contact, Dick Schultz

You will find a form to fill out to receive the DVD and a catalog. Name, address, Country etc. You will also find a box to UN-check if you do not want your information sent to a dealer or distributor. It is checked by default. By UN-checking the box, Minelab will send the requested information directly to you. Here is what it says:

As part of our commitment to customer service, we would like to refer your contact details to the Minelab Dealer or Distributor nearest you. Minelab respects your privacy and will never sell or use your name for any other purpose. Checking this box gives Minelab your permission to send your contact information to your local dealer so they can help you choose the product that is right for you.

I agree with the last statement. Not just one detector to fill all your needs. But with Minelabs thinking of the X-terra series it fills many needs. You switch the coil instead of buying a whole special detector.

Using the stock 7.5 coil is good for all-round detecting. Coins, relic hunting, beach, and fields.

By changing the coil to the 18.75 it becomes a gold detector. It can still detect coins and relics (just not as deep). More sensitive to small items such as gold. I would not recommend for trashy areas.
Example: If a mower hit a pack of gum, you will be digging every peice of the foil wrapper.

As far as what coils and when: Last I heard they were releasing the 18.75 standard size at the end of the month. As for your size question, a this time the largest is the stock coil. It could be months before we see the full line of coils. I think there is also a Double D in there somewhere also. Not sure on the size.

From what I have been told, there are going to be several coils released for the X-Terra 50. However, they are still in the development stages and no one has told me exactly what will be availble or when. In the X-Terra operator's manual, you will find drawings of 4 coils. Going by the looks of them, I would say that they include the 9-inch concentric, a 9-inch DD, a smaller DD and a larger DD. If that is accurate, those would be 3 that are not currently available. Now, keep in mind that these are not actual photos. Just artist renderings. So the DD / concentric may not be accurate. And, I don't know the exact sizes. But, from what I have been told over the past few months, in addition to the two 9-inch concentric coils currently made, there will be a smaller one and a larger one. Like I said, I don't know what frequencies any of them will be, or which ones are DD and which ones will be concentric. Hopefully Minelab reps read these forums and see our "want list".

I don't actually relic hunt. But, I think the 7.5 kHz coil is what you need, from what you described. It is a deepseeking, lightweight, sensitive coil and handles mineralized ground very well. I have found the higher 18.75 kHz coil to be a bit noisy, even in my moderately mineralized ground. I can compensate for the chatter by lowering the sensitivity. But doing so causes me to lose a bit of depth. I prefer to use the lower freq and hunt DEEP!

Can't comment on the M6 or if Whites will roll it and the MXT into one unit. When you look at the number of posts on the X-Terra, Whties M6 and Fisher Edge, the X-Terra seems to be the most popular, hands down. I have owned a couple MXT's and they are good machines for what they are designed to do. Being a coin shooter, the relic mode and prospecting mode were an "over-kill" for me. I tried out a Fisher Edge this past week, and sold it. I will not go into details about my thoughts. Just that it wouldn't have replaced anything I currently have.

I have several detectors, and as you mentioned, all of them have their place. If I am in the mode for some SLOW hunting in an area that has both old coins and serious trash, I take the Full Band Spectrum Explorer and the stock 8-inch DD coil. If I want to move a bit faster, I use my 6.59 kHz XL Pro and either the 5.3 or the 350 coil. If I am in wide open areas, I like the feel and speed of the 7.5 kHz X-Terras or the 5 kHz Advantage. I have learned the sounds of the Advantage, which makes not having visual ID "no big deal" to me. All of them get used. Depending on the site and what I am looking for.

I don't know what kind of detectors you have, but I have tried about all of them over the past 33 years. If you have some specific questions about any particular make or model, send me an email. I will be happy to share my thoughts about them with you. HH Randy

use what works for me and get rid of what doesn't. I've used about 13 different detectors in my 6yrs and my favorites are Whites 6.59 kHz and Minelabs. I really wanted to try a Golden U Max for trash hunting but the X Terra 50 more than covered that with a 9" coil and with 5" or 6" concentric or DD in my opinion it's completely covered. Just my humble opinion. HH Bill

In 6 years you figured out what it took me 33 years to do. Just think of how much money we would have saved if we had just gone with these to begin with! Seriously, we have come a long way from the BFO machines I started with. Folks today get impatient if they dig a few screw caps or the target ID is not bang-on every time. I remember when you dug everything and was impressed when it was over 4 inches deep. Those were the days when we wore nail aprons and both sides filled up with trash before your watch pocket filled with coins. HH Randy

Thank Geo but I sent for another today, I didn't forget to uncheck the box this time. That X-Terra 50 sound like just what want but I'm going to hold out for a month or two just to see what they have to offer for coils. I live in New Hampshire and the ground will be frozen till April anyway.
I just started metal detecting last August and fell in love with it. Right now I use a White's Prizm IV, a nice unit but I think its about time to advance.
Right now I'd like to see a coil smaller then stock and one larger then stock for relic and coin hunting before I totally decide on the X-Terra.
Thanks for your offer on the CD Geo. You all a great bunch of guys on this forum, and helpful
Thanks, Dirt-Digger
