A Few More Turf Hunts....7 Silver, 50 Wheats!

Hello My Friends!

I went out detecting a few times since my last posting. I didn't find anything too exciting, but had a great time, as always, hunting with some of my buddies comparing deep, masked signals on our Explorers in areas we have pillaged so many times over that I have lost count. Most of the coins were 7" or greater in depth, and many were partially masked by trash targets(aluminum, iron) or shallow clad. The lead disk (in the silver pic) was a heart-stopper. It looked like an old half dollar (similar to what my seated half looked like) at the bottom of my 10" plug. I believe it has some markings on one side, but I can't make anything out.

I'm liking the cooler weather, but I can't wait for the ground at these parks I've been hunting to soften up. ...I've had to chisel my way to find most of these deeper targets. I think a foot shovel would have really helped, but it's a little hard to keep a low profile and not get kicked out of a park with one of those. :rage:

Thanks for looking!

Wow that's a lot of keepers! Congrats....have never seen as many clipped coins as you dig in
CA - I've dug several clipped dimes, but never a clipped wheat! You should make up a display of clipped coins and jewelry! :bouncy:

What's the story with the other ring? Looks old! Is the lead item some sort of seal??? Nice finds!

The commercial lawnmowers at our Los Angeles parks really tear up/clip all items in the turf. You should see these things. They're huge, and have a series of cylindrical blades on each side of the driver. Some parks I hunt at are worse than others. I've got a pretty extensive collection of chopped wheats, silvers, jewelry, and clad. The silver ring is not that old I don't think. Whoever wore it must be in a culture that considers the #13 as lucky....the whole ring is good luck charms.

Never thought about my lead item being a lead seal...I thought lead seals are super old, although I know the park/area I found that piece is very old, dating back to the Spanish Explorer Portola in the mid 1700's.

Thanks,

Man, that sure is a lot of Wheats! I'm with Erik about the quantity of clipped coins-- those mowers really sure do a number on them. I think I've maybe dug 4 or 5 in the last 5 years. Congratulations on all the nice finds! Looks like you were busy. Thanks for posting.

WTG Dan......
congratulations on the finds...the wheats and the silvers are
great. Like some of the others, I am amazed as to how many
clipped coins you manage to find. Gold Nuggets :wiggle:
