A few more GOLDEN thoughts... Tejon users DO NOT read...

... Just kidding. You Badger Swingers are welcome to follow along and snicker at us less-than-serious types, if you like.

NOTE: This thread originated elsewhere and created a fire storm of debate, not all of it strictly civil. The Tejon lovers were irate:ranting: over the thought that the Golden could find buttons (or anything else, for that matter) as well as their beloved Badger. I am not here to take either side - I merely report what I learn. SO, lets not shoot the messenger, namely ME, shall we?

I took the Golden out this AM after all the talk about it in yesterday

Actually I no longer use a Tejon so you won't get no argument from me about your post.....I've used many Tesoro's down thru the years but because of my ground conditions I've usually stuck to the models with manual GB. For most of my hunting I don't need ID meter's or tones. But for the yards and occupied places I sometimes hunt I usually try to keep some type of ID model handy to cut down on my dig holes.. I owned a Cortes for quite awhile and the old Toltec 100 is still one of my favorite Tesoro's..I say, you got to use what works for you in the situation at hand and it sounds like the Golden is doing just fine for you....As for people who take offense at someone who likes a different brand then they do ...here's my thoughts,,,,I have several different detectors, and on any given day at certain locations and hunt conditions I can honestly feel that for me, at that spot & time, I have the greatest detector on earth. ..But I've got enough sense to know that on a different day, at a different site, and different conditions & goals, this same detector might not come close to doing what one of my other models can do in that situation.. .SO, when I hear someone bragging that their detector, no matter what model, is the absolute greatest, deepest, and nothing else comes close to it, then I figure one of two things-- either they've got an ulterior motive for pushing this hard, OR, they just ain't learned enough about the different aspects of detecting to realize there ain't NO PERFECT detector.. Either way they're only fooling themselves if they think they can influence experienced & knowledgable hunters into believing that their choice of detector is inferior and need to run out and buy the "super" model .... I say, use what works for you and use it as often as you can, and most important have fun doing it...... Dave

Yes, Dave,
There seems to be a lot of contention around this topic of "Which detector is best?"

I frequent the Garrett forum and there is often someone who pops up there commenting about how downright hateful some of these "other forums" can be.

I cant help but feel that avarice has something to do with it. I mean, if I found some artifact that actually sold for $1000's of dollars, well, let's juts say that I can see where another might feel rather strongly on the issue. It certainly would change matters, for me.

I do like the Golden and I enjoy some minimal ID features, at least, I gotta admit. Even the "multiple mode" feature of the Tejon would do it for me, since I ahd a 1266X for years. I also have a Vaquero if I want to use it, as it seems a great compromise - which is where all this comes to, ie, What compromises are you willing to make?

But in the end, your dead and your stuff becomes someone else's artifacts. I suppose I will only get serious enough that I make changes to my own equipment, not harangue those who make other choices. Thanks for your comments.

There are people who detect for FUN and it is an enjoyable hobby to them. You can have fun and look back on an enjoyable day with good memories even if you didn't find $$$$$ worth of goodies.. But there are others who detect solely for the purpose of how much they can find. Their ego requires that they outdo the others of their same kind. So the more $$$$$ their finds are worth the happier they are. The problem is, no matter who you are, where you live, or what detector you use, the really old coins & relics are getting scarcer every day. Which brings up another problem for the "ego" type. How do you continue to top each others finds when someone posts a more rare or valuable relic than the last one you posted? The answer is to sink to an even lower level by posting pictures of relics that you didn't really find or buying them and putting an "I just dug it" story with it.. This might sound pitiful, but believe it or not, it is happening..It's a sad situation when it gets to where the dollar value and the amount of finds is the only measure of success when it comes to something that should just be a FUN part of your life.. I try to avoid visiting the forums where these type hang out. I'd rather read the posts of people like yourself and others who talk detector and detecting info and share the finds and fun they have while enjoying themselves...... Dave

Plus....
The best metal detector out there....is the one between your ears, not the one in your hand.
The one in your hand gives the one between your ears an indication only, it's the one between the ears that decides whether to dig or not to dig.
And if the one between your ears is full of work or home related topics, then it won't be working to it's full capacity, and you might as well be swishing a stick in your hand..
If you are not in the right frame of mind to go beeping...then you will not find the small stuff nor the deep stuff.
Just my thoughts you understand.

When my energy is good and my mind is positive about finding relics I usually do good..But if I'm tired or physically not feeling too good then it affects my mental outlook during the hunt and it just don't seem like I find as much. I suspect that without realizing it I'm probably doing something a litte different in my hunting technique or just not searching with the same intensity as on the good days...But I'm sure if I dig up a good button or plate it will put me in a much better frame of mind.... Anyways,, even a bad day detecting is better than a good day doing most other things..... Dave

I love my Golden and can't see every getting rid of it. The post on the other forum that started up the war is just the owner not reading the posts as usual... He just jumped ahead and thought that it was stated that the golden was deeper than the Tejon, which it isn't( I own both) But it all depends on who you are I guess.... as there is a post there now that states the cibola is deeper that the tejon and not a thing said to him.:)
The golden is Tesoros secert :) no disr. and listen to it and learn it.
