Well it rained a little this morning so work was called off. By mid morning the rain had stopped and i went relic hunting. I found a 1905 Barber dime, a flattened memorial penny (probably flattened on the railroad tracks nearby) , a brass terret and what i think might be a fuse for a shell. Can anyone confirm it? It is solid brass, 1 1/16 inch diameter , about 3/8 inch thick, threaded on the outside edge , center hole goes all the way through, other 2 holes on one side only.

It looks like a brass Borman fuse underplug. There were brass and iron variants. The purpose was to support the zinc alloy fuse remain intact upon firing of the cannon itself. The two outer holes were for a spanner made just for these while the center hole allows the fire train from the fuse make contact with the powder chamber.

Hope this helps. Very nice example, btw!
