A Few Keepers

These are from the past two hunts. Didn't hunt long with the high humidity. I was about ready to throw the "junk" ring (bottom right) away and Larry cleaned it up before I got it to the garbage and it is a very old gold plated ring that had been sized and also has two initials in it. So, I guess I learned a lesson to clean ALL junk rings. I'll contact the gentlemen where I found it at in his yard and see if he knows anyone with those initials. HH, Nancy

Cool finds! I found some old toy cars like that one day in a park, I was having more fun finding the cars than coins

Thank you. Some of the older toy cars are worth a lot more than a coin or two also. I love seeing the old Tootsie toys come out of the ground. HH, Nancy

Nice finds. Nancy, was you using the MXT or your new E-Trac. I'm guessing maybe the MXT since you posted here. Curious to hear your report on the etrac and how you are likeing it so far.

Hi OregonGregg, I found this with my trusty MXT. To be honest, I've not tried the E-trac yet. I've been looking at it and trying to figure the numbers, etc. out. Does that count in using it?

I really don't want to use it in a private lawn for fear of tearing it up with my mistakes. I'll take it out in our yard with a handful of coins and play around and see how things go first before attempting to use it on private lawns, etc. I'm getting pumped up about the machine, but will always love my MXT, even though it's as old as the hills, it's still going strong and VERY dependable.

HH,
Nancy

LOL sounds good. Be sure to keep us up to date with the E-Trac adventure.

That you're getting out AND using the MXT!

Last Saturday Gregg (Oregon Gregg) used his MXT Pro w5.3 Eclipse coil and got the highest correct score on my 'educational' Detecting Blackjack Challenge. It was only by one number correct over James who was using his Minelab Explorer SE w/stock 10" coil, but it was an interesting result. The 50 targets are numbered and in white plastic pill bottle caps. You can't see the sample target, and each one is a single 'found' item and not masked. I didn't put a nail or other object in any container to mask a desired find, just the individual sample targets.

The goal was to pick a 'Blackjack' group of '21' targets to try and find. Group '21-A' was 1 scalloped aluminum Trade Token, 4 Foreign Coins, and 16 US coins. Silver Dollar, Half and 2 Quarters, and Seated Liberty Dime, Capped Bust Half-Dime, a Buffalo Nickel and 'nickel' 3 Cent piece, and several Pennies from a Flying Eagle , Indian Head's Wheat-backs, Zinc and newer Memorial 'copper' types.

'21-B' was to find the 13 Trash Targets and 8 Jewelry items. Those consisted of three .750 / 18K Gold Earrings, a Sterling Silver Earring, Sterling Silver Religious Pendent, a Gold Cufflink (I found in my favorite ghost town), a 14K Women's Gold Ring and Gold Plated Costume Ring.

'21-C' required the person to find and mark the 13 Trash Targets and 8 Artifacts, including a 4-hole metal button, Decorative Button, Military Eagle Button, an 'S' Disk used to seal booze bottles used by officers at an 1888 military encampment, and 4 Clothing Fasteners.

James isn't new to the Explorer series, either, and he told Gregg it too him a year of very active detecting with the Explorer's to learn them. That was several years ago. They had the highest scored, but not by much. It was pleasing to me, being an MXT/MXT Pro fan and devoted user, to see Gregg squeak through with the results he got. And he was using my #1 favorite coil, too!

I wish I were close by and could have you take on the Detecting Blackjack Challenge because you have a lot of experience using the MXT and I think you would be able to get a high score on the '21' Group of your choice.

Anyway, have patience as you work to learn the FBS Minelab, and as the frustrations surface, just take a break, grab your MXT, and go find stuff. :detecting:

Monte

Monte, What a wonderful post. Thank you!

I too feel that I would do a darn good job of scoring extremely close to 21 if not right on the number using my MXT. I would love to take that challenge. How intriguing and a good learning experience with the machines. Thank you for what you do in helping others.

Like you, I know that machine like the back of my hand. I've said so many times, "Trust your machine" when using the MXT.

I'm not going to let the FBS machine get to me. Slow and steady. Yes, I will always have the MXT with me just in case I do get annoyed with the inability to understand the other machine.

I'll be taking baby steps with the Minelab. But honestly, I will never know it like I do my MXT.

Thank you again Monte and HH,

Nancy
