A few keepers and silvers

The weather around here has warmed up enough that I figured I had better get out swinging before my chances are gone. This past week I have got out for three short hunts for a total of almost 5 hours. First day I went to a park close to my house before work and found the silver quarter and two wheats. This was in an area that I know I have detected before and still find keepers there. The next day I got out for a quick hunt between classes and got the silver Rosie, buffalo nickel, and another wheat, I was super pumped because I love those buffalos but rarely find them. I looked through a 15x loop trying to get a date off the buffalo, but could see nothing. When I started to soak it in vinegar the date appeared 1919. When I dried it off and buffed it, the date disappeared again, oh well. A couple of days ago I met up with MontanaMatt and Optitrac for a short hunt. I wasn't finding any keepers and time was running out for me. I got a faint coin signal and decided to go after it. At about 7 inches I found this tiny silver coin. At first judging on size I thought that I had a half dime, but then saw that it was a Canadian coin. It is the same size as an American half dime, but they continued making these small coins long after we stopped making them. You can see from the picture how much smaller it is than the dime. I am very pleased with the coin, and the American half dime is still on my wish list. Gonna try to get out a few more times before the snow flies to try and find 3 more silver, which would make 40 for the season, keep your fingers crossed!
Thanks for looking and HH
Jon

Jon, What a great story and wonderful finds. I love the Buffalo nickels also. Heck, any nickels are cool to come across. :detecting: The little Canadian piece is very interesting. Guess I've never seen one like that before and that would sure make your heart go pitter-patter thinking it could be a half dime. You've excelled in the silver coin count and I wish you luck on your goal and I will be keeping my fingers crossed for you. [attachment 144678 crossed.jpg] Thanks for posting and great pictures. Keep us posted on the silver count. HH to you all, Nancy

Well I tried as hard as I could to get the three silvers but couldn't seal the deal. I did find a 1943 silver quarter and a 1925 Merc dime. I woke up this morning to about 4 inches of snow, so getting 1 more silver seems pretty unlikely, but sure had fun trying. HH!

S-N-O-W??? Yikes, I hate to hear that. Congrats on your 38th & 39th silver. :clapping: The year isn't over yet. Somehow, someway, I have faith that you'll get that last silver to make it 40 by the end of the year. One way or another! :wiggle: HH and stay warm! Nancy
