a few finds today

today i hunted in a friend's yard ...he owns an 1880's Greek revival house near the railroad. Found a 3-ringer , 1897 indian head penny , 1943 mercury dime, a fired bullet (smaller caliber), a few memorial pennies and a few whatsits. My friend also found a 3 ringer. Later i stopped by another buddy's house , who with a friend of his had been hunting today too(they are both novices with about 3 weeks experience hunting relics)....i showed them my finds for the day and one of them asked me to look at a button he had found. At first glance i said " nice flower button" but upon closer examination , I said holy sh*$t do you know what this is?....he replied " no " ....I said , "This is a silver plated NC sunburst button...the face of one without the back anyways"...he was so excited that he had found a confederate button...I was too....I asked him where he found it and he said he found it in the field i had hunted the other day in Bentonville. Anyways , looks like we will be back there tomorrow.

good digs, gx. it looks like that field might hold some interesting stuff! silver is always good! nice confederate buttons are getting hard to find. hh!

I dont think it is a lead pencil. there is no hole at the point ,,,perhaps the cap of a pen or something.

Nice digs, GX. Always good to find relics. Your friend's NC starburst is a one piece button so it won't have a back. The shanks were brittle so finding one with a shank is fairly uncommon. But, heck, these days, finding a CS button is getting to be uncommon.

Nice digging!

Richard
