Here are my digs from the last two weeks. Nothing amazing but some kinda neat. I found one old coin (maybe 1700s? ) but of course I can't read a date. Thanks for looking and HH.

The coin you found is an Austrian 1/2 Kreuzer from around 1760. Those particular designs, didn't actually have a date on them, which would help explain why you couldn't find it! Here's a better example:

Toby got a question, what are the best coin books for these types of coins or do you just use the internet?

It is still to hot here in the desert to do any seroius metal detecting, so I have to spend my time searching the forums looking at what other people are finding, waiting for cooler weather. You just wait till this winter when you are cooped up, looking out of your window at the frozen ground, I will show you a thing or three. Just kidding, man those are some great finds, looks like a lot of civil war activity in your area.

Colt, this winter is going to be pretty rough on me, I am getting stationed in North Dakota. They say average temp is 15 degrees.:stretcher: The desert will be looking real good.LOL Right now I am in Germany. The best hunting grounds I have ever been on. Here you can just go to a battle site and start hunting.:usaf:

Birdman,
For this one, I simply used the internet. Went to ebay, (coins-world), and typed a search for "1/2". Browsed down looking for any denominations starting with "K". I figured it was European, just by the design and inscription. Found Kroners, Kopecs, Kreuzers. Just looked around at ones from the 1700's, since that's the timeframe of other stuff you were finding, until I found a similar match. Then went to Google and did a search on 1/2 Kreuzer, and found a site of "Coins of Austria 1740-1780 and there it was.
Research is kinda one of my hobbies, and comes in handy both before and after the hunt. The web makes it easy.
Anyway, nice find!
Cheers, Toby
