There have been very few 3kHz finds posted and I have to admit I'm usually after gold so I haven't really put much time in with the low freq coil. As of late I have been exploring what may arguably be it's greatest strength, which is the ability to NOT be masked by small low conductors like bits of foil.
I took the X70 for a little jaunt in an area I know has deep coins dating from around 1900. I ended up with a few wheaties, a 1901 Indian, silver pendant, & '39 Wash. The Wash. was the most interesting of the targets. It ID'd as a 46 from multiple directions and never wavered. Thinking this might be some silver I wanted to make sure I didn't hit it during recovery so I dug an 8"x8" plug, and then I dug, and dug, and dug. Pretty soon I was at a depth that was beyond all reason.
So out came the Vibraprobe and began checking the sides of the hole, though unlikely with a hole this size. Nothing like being wrong in your assumptions, because I had missed the Wash. with my shovel by about 3/8" as it stood perfectly vertical in the side of the hole at 4" deep.
