Well, it started out as an idea. I got some inside information about an area inaccessible by road, where people used to meet to camp, swim, picnic, hunt etc. I talked to my buddy Scott about this place and he expressed an interest. He owns a canoe, so he borrowed his wife's van, got one of his sons to load the canoe on the van, and he arrived at my place this morning too early to remember what time it was.

Well, we drove to our destination as planned. The snow was a bit of a surprise too. Oh well, I have always said;
"IT'S BETTER TO BE OUTSIDE METAL DETECTING WISHING YOU WERE INSIDE NOT METAL DETECTING, THEN IT IS TO BE INSIDE NOT METAL DETECTING, WISHING YOU WERE OUTSIDE METAL DETECTING"
We hunted the land for a while, as the water was frozen around the edges for about 20 feet out.

Well, we finally decided to do some paddle splashing, so we unloaded out gear, loaded the canoe and headed off. The place was about 1/2 mile. It didn't take very long at all. As you can see, Scott was paddling from the stern. Although, I couldn't actually see this, it occurred to me that every time I stopped paddling for a moment, the canoe quite moving and there was total silence. Scott have forgotten his paddle?

Well, we wasted no time, and started hunting. Both of us immediately started digging various targets. It was cold, with a cold south wind blowing.

Well, detecting in areas covered with some snow does cause some problems. The snow filled in the spaces on my open spider coil, making it operate erratically. I switched to my ACE 250/Sniper Coil, and problem was solved.

Well, being out in the cold fresh air does make one hungry. I took a break, and ate a cheese + onion sandwich, along with some peppered beef jerky and pepperonis. Dang good eatin too!

Well, after a good meal, I took a rest and figured I could maybe find a flake or two.... The nuggets out here ain't worth keeping if they are shorter then the length of your baby finger.

Well, after some more hunting, we grew tired and decided to pack up and paddle back to our waiting van. We did a portage back to the van and loaded up the gear.

Oh...my finds. Nothing special. A little coin, an old hair brett and some great memories. What else does one need..........
