A Different Approach to Noise Canceling

My yard is probably the worst place I could have planted a coin garden. There's lots of really fine iron filings all over. I think it's natural. If I drag a strong magnet around, it gets real fuzzy real fast with all the filings.
Anyhow, this causes my machine to false real bad, always high right corner in smart find. I've tried auto noise cancel and it just doesn't seem to cut it. I did a manual noise setting and found that the machine worked great at lower noise numbers like 1, 2, or 3. The mid and high numbers would drive you out of your mind with all the high falsing unless I drop the sens down to 12. With the lower numbers I can still see my 6 and 7 inch deep targets just fine and with a sens of 20 or better.
So here's what I found: Find an area where there aren't any targets in wide open IM. This area may have lots of high right falses, but no targets. Then I hit auto noise cancel and swept the coil side to side while it was junting through the numbers automatically. When it finished, I found that it had selected 2 or 3 every time. If I do the auto noise cancel with a stationary coil, it usually picks 9 or 11.
The lower the noise numbers, the higher the frequencies, and vice-versa.
If you're in an area of horrible soil, give this a try. It just might work. That, or try manually selecting 1 or 2 instead and see if it works better for you. If you're in -my- yard, please use the high noise numbers so you don't find -my- treasures!
