A days hunt with the Cibola in Oz

werewolf

New member
I've had my Cibola for 9 months and I absolutely love this machine! Light as a feather, excellent pinpointing and so easy to use.

Thought I'd show you guys what we pull outta the ground down here. A better than average day at an old school site.

The Cibola doesn't miss much!

Over 60 coins in one hunt, that is a great day. Keep at it.Are the 4 in the picture on the left silver? If so that is a sweet day. good job, Dan

True right, wow, a beaut mate, what a series good finds in one shot !!

What did you set your discrimination at and what coil did you use ?

I want to know this too: "How well does the Cibola deal with the bad ground in Oz with the pre-set GB ?"

Do you wish you would have bought a Vaquero instead with Manual GB, or not ?

Keep up the good work !

Gerry and Dave.........I live on the east coast of Australia where 'bad ground' is never an issue. I don't use the Cibola on the beach, I have a PI that handles the wet sand.

I'm using the standard 9x8" concentric coil which pinpoints wonderfully. I may add the 5.75 later (for trashy areas), but for now the 8x9 is just fine.

For settings - I discriminate high with the knob on tab. Threshold at 3 o'clock, sensitivity about the same. Here in Oz those settings will easily pick up all the $1 and $2 coins, 50 cent coins, and all pre decimals expect for the tiny threepence piece. Will also get most silver and gold rings. I don't dig a lot of trash these days - bar the occassional screw cap. These settings will also find every damn obsolete 1c and 2c piece, as the Cibola hits hard on coppers!

Depending on the mood I'm in, I will drop the disc down to just above iron and hunt the smaller denomination 5, 10 & 20 cent decimals - I've learnt how to identify their tones amongst the rubbish. Took me a while, but now it's clear as day.

On good sites - such as above - I will supertune the machine to get more depth - and then I'll pick up the silver 3 pence bits.

great finds ! i am glad to here from people that have a cibola .
i just bought a cibola it is my first . thanks again i can' t wait
to get started . again great finds

i'm curious what school did you hit?i don't think i'm a danger to you unless you live in cairns.schools i hunt in, i've never found pre-decimal coins in.i run a vaquero, with the same settings and ground balanced.blowfly

Hi Blowfly................I'm over 1000km away in Wollongong, NSW!

This particular school dates from the 1920s, and it seems the old sports area has never been filled or re-turfed, hence the good finds. My penny count from this site is now well over 30.

Yes those settings are perfect for hunting in Oz, gets almost everything. Sure you miss the 5, 10 & 20c coins, but I'd rather dig one hole for a $2 coin than 10 holes for a 20c coin!

You are really hitting those coins well! It is a nice light fun detector. In my experience with a Cibola, discrimination set to tab knocks out all the gold I have found except one ring that was 10k gold filled, which really means it was mostly copper.
Cheers,
tvr
