A day to remember......

I won't bore you with the details now. You'll read about this place in Western & Eastern later on.;) I "burned a day" from work yesterday to hit a new permission I just got. It was a day WELL SPENT! I managed about 30 Wheat cents, 6 Indians, a silver Roosevelt, 2 Mercury dimes, a War Nickel, 2 Buffalo, 1 V-Nickel, Another SLQ - 1926 :yo: an 1828 Large Cent, a couple old keys (way cool!) and several buttons. We found a bunch of buttons that are replicas of shotgun brass. They say" Kemington 20 GA Express". I thought they were pretty cool. I also found a very small stirrup that we assume must have belonged to a child. My digging buddy got a ton of stuff as well. Now for the really good news. We haven't even gotten in the back yard yet!

Sounds like you should call in sick today! Gut it dun! Hope to see the story make the magazine. Hopefully it won't disappear like your last one ;) Speaking of W&E Treasures, anyone get the new one yet?? Or am I gunna be the lucky one that does not get it this month

Anyone ever seen these buttons before? They are smaller than a dime. I think we got about a half dozen of them. One of mine still has the shank.

Dang - you got one helluva GREAT yard there Tony - look forward to reading the story down the road in W & E - excellent finds!!! I'm envious - HH - Hawkeye Jim.

Haven't seen it yet - last month you Easterners got yours about a week before I did here in the Midwest - Hawkeye Jim.

I thought the Coinstrike was weak on nickels? Not when ya dig 'n it all I guess... Gut it dun!

Tony, I have not look at this site for that particular shell but here is a good ID Shotgun head site that I use.

made to look like a shell. I just talked to Tony...that's why he said it had a shank. Pretty cool button.

Hey Tony - where has most of your gold finds been id'ing on the C$ - somewhere around nickel or below??? I've been notching out foil - might have to change that - adding a little foil to my pull tab collection might not be a bad idea!!! Hawkeye Jim.

I kept wondering what the heck he meant by shank & was like, why is he posting "boolet" shells? ;)

Mostly pulltabs, but I have had a few very nice "Foil" pieces. Don't get me wrong....I get a lot of pulltabs and foil too! You just have to pay your dues. There is no magic formula or big secret, I just dig it all. This one rang up as foil. It's 18K and has been claimed by my daughter.

Hey Tony,
I'm diggin a few holes down here at the beach but no luck like we had at Mr. W's house. I think I got spoiled that day. My legs are still eat up in skeeter bites. Kinda looks like I got shot with #8 bird shot. Well, guess I'll go take a nap and then go dig some more.I'll post my finds from Mr. W's house when I get back...................
See ya buddy!!!!!!!! (Did you get that air conditioning fixed yet???)

Allen

I know the diggin is a lot easier! I got torn up from the mosquitoes, poison ivy and those stinkin evergreens (I get this nasty rash from pine trees...go figure!) We went home itchin' but we were smilin! :D The compressor is on it's last leg on the AC. I think it's gonna cost me more than that dog cost you! :ranting: Oh well....it's only money!

Did I just say that?:surprised:

Hey Tony,
Haven't found much down here so far. I did see a couple old guys detectin some but did'nt get to talk to them. One of the old guys looked like he needed some more fiber in his diet, you know, kinda "VERY UNFRIENDLY" looking. It's so hot and humid that i gave it up after a while. One thing that made it worse is that I left my 1280 hip mount in my truck box at home. That 1280 feels like it weighs a ton after about an hour of hunting out of the water.I should have brought my other detector for the dry sand cause its much lighter. My arm is still a little sore from our hunt this week in Mr. W's yard.
Well, better run for now...........think I'll go back to the room and wait for somebody to say "lets go eat"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have been wading a freshwater beach this week which I considered a fresh drop area only. A shotgun brass I found today just proved me very wrong. The pictured brass pre-dates 1920 according to this site http://www.ngpc.state.ne.us/nebland/articles/history/shotshells.asp.

Shell says, Winchester, No 12, Nublack. Also found a brass cartridge that appears to have no head stamp.
