Me with GTI 2500. I showed the guys who have a goldbug and a tesoro how to find black sand deposits with there detector. They liked that and were very interested in this. I found a pocket of black sand in the middle of the creek where the others guys didnt think gold would be. I got the largest concentration of gold of the day. Thanks to my Garrett!

To prospect with the 2500, is it possible to use the stock coil.

Yes, I usually use the stock coil for prospecting. It is the MOST sensitive coil to gold and to small items. The DD 5x10 is ok but you will loose about 2 -3 inches of depth with it and it is not as sensitive to small items. I thought it would be sensitive as the stocker but from my exoerience is not. It is good in hot ground though.

The other coil I use for prospecting is the 10x14 because of its ground coverage and great in hot ground and it is awesome on anything the size of .22 bullet and bigger.(2.5 grams) The 12.5 is the deepest coil from my experience in regular ground. With the stock coil i have found lead shot at 0.2- 0.3 and 0.4 gram sizes all at around 2 inches. No other coil except stock and 4.5 will do that. HH Alan (Ga)

Nice finds. I've done a little panning myself up in the Motherlode.

Are there any big rocks in those streams or up on the bank where high water hits - with moss on them? If so do you do any mossing for gold?

The moss acts like a mesh in a sluice to catch the gold. Any moss won't do. You want the moss where the stream has run over it during times when the water was high. If the moss wasn't next to running water it will not be very effective catching the gold.
You wash the moss in a bucket and pan out the sediments. If there is no black sand, then there is no gold. You can also burn the moss and pan out the ashes.

Do you find anything in it. I used to get quite a few flakes by mossing all the rocks. Course out here they are BIG rocks - like taller than me.

Bill

That's true John. It has to be in running water to collect gold but it is very good at trapping small gold WE got lots of black sand out here.

Bill

Yes usually I find something golden in the moss if there is gold in there creek. Sometimes it tells me where to look in the creek...like following the moss when it gets more gold, look right there near it in the creek!
