A Crazy First For Me... Pistol At The Park!

Well-known member
I meet up with a guy from another forum for the first time this afternoon. We didn't have a lot of time to hunt so I thought we would try our luck at an old park in town. I thought I would go off the beaten path and detect the woods and brush to maybe earn a few old coins. I made one pass through the area with not much to show. I had turned and was making my second pass when I get a screaming signal, I raked back the leaves with my foot expecting to see another old beer can, but I was so surprised to see this shiny pistol laying there. My first thought was no way this is real but it didn't take long after seeing the serial number on the side to know it was the real deal. I called the police to report it and waited around to show them and give them my story. The officer told me that they found a big bag full of personal belongings and electronics in that same area last year. They think both that bag and now this gun may have been involved in a burglary at that time. I was told thanks and I was happy I could help out. It's a scary thought a loaded gun could be laying around for a kid or anyone to find. It had been there long enough to rust the action and the clip. The officer said it can't be brought in until it is unloaded and cleared. I didn't stick around to find out any more.

Cool pictures. Glad you got it taken care of. I have a FFL and gunsmithed for about 10 years as well. You know something isn't right when you find something like that. I don't recall ever working on those Bryco/Jenning's type pistols were cheap Saturday night specials. I'd rather be directly in front of the thing at 20 feet than 4 foot to either side. The one's I'd shot were none too accurate. Maybe the police will give you a call the next time they find burglary evidence Dave.

Wild story !

Parson my language but I probably would have shit my self and got in my car and left.

Are they going to give you the pistol back?? From my understanding the police have it?? Once its cleared and documented you have the right to ask for it back.

The cops have their own detectors, I left a card at my local police station telling them if they ever need a person with a metal detector , trying to find a gun or knife, I would help. This was 2 years ago and I never heard from them

Hey thanks guys! Seems like a lot of folks would have just kept it or would want it back. I'm a gun guy but don't want any part of that in my home. I'm certain (along with the police) that this gun was used by a criminal and possibly used in a crime. I'm good with the pics I took and the story to tell.

I would think when its over you will get it returned. A story in your local paper would be nice and good for all of us and the hobby. Maybe check into that. let us know what happens and thanks for sharing your story. it should be shared with the public, Have a great weekend................Pete

You could probably take that worthless POS and give it back at a worthless POS gun buy back and get something worth while, like maybe a gift certificate.
