My new X-Terra 70 came in yesterday.
I probably wont be able to take the time to use it for a couple of days, but as I assemble and play with everything,
I came up with a couple of ideas. The first was a revelation about the environmental cover (posted in that thread).
I fish quite allot. One of the tools I take with me is a special towel. It is 10"X24" and has a metal eyelet centered in
one end where there is a Clip to fasten the towel to your belt loop. Wet the lower 6" to wash the hands on. Before this
custom made towel, I used a dish towel with about 1/3 of it tucked under my belt.
I intend to keep a towel at the ready while detecting and digging.
I ordered the bungee corded harness: Kudos to the designer. It took a few minutes to figure out how the harness was
to fit (no instructions), but I soon figured it out and got it adjusted I found it makes the detector virtually weightless.
I think the harness will be a keeper.
AMDS, the sponsor at the top of this page: I ordered last Saturday and everything was delivered
yesterday. From Alaska to Oregon in just 4 work days. How impressive. In addition to a discounted cost on the unit;
They included at no cost, a quality digging tool, Grey ghost headphones and the extra Minelab 2 year warranty (4 years total)
and no cost Insured Priority Mail shipping. I'm very pleased with AMDS as a supplier.
As I was ordering, I considered the two local dealers, within 30 miles. I visited both shops, two times to get information on detectors.
I was not only, not demoed, but I was not even offered to hold a detector. Worse yet, at one of the locations, the counter person
was glued to the chair (I guess) and did not help, with exception to advise me to get an Infinium L/S, which they did not stock,
but would happily order for me at suggested factory list. That's when I decided to look on-line for information.
And, I found this forum!
Difficult for me to assess the quality of customer care in this industry. I realize most of the "mining" shops are mom and pop
affairs, which is not a bad thing, except when it comes to buying power; but to allow an employee to just sit there as opposed to
being assertive tells me some in this industry would benefit from customer satisfaction and sales training.
Please understand my comments are about two shops in my area. And, I may be too demanding or expect too much. However,
in these days, I believe if I had a retail store, I'd make sure that everyone who came in the door was properly greeted, questioned,
demoed and I would make it as easy as possible for them to say yes and purchase. I think today's Internet savvy clients have the
attitude: "If you do not offer an advantage - why should I buy from you?" - Then again, I've been wrong before.
Regards,
Doc
