a couple of good finds -- includes silver #40 for the year...

Thanks to BuckeyeBrad's advice, I toned down the sensitivity on my SE Pro, as I've been fighting the falsing from deep rusty nails lately while trying to find the deep, harder-to-ID coins hiding in my local hunted-out parks.

This tip worked out real well, as in only 60 minutes of hunting I pulled out 3 keepers (the most keepers ever for me from this particular park in one day). The keepers were a 1940-D wheat, a 1942-D wheat, and my first silver EVER from this hard-hammered park (despite it being 120 years old) -- a 1944-D Merc. Along with being my first silver from this particularly-difficult park in probably a dozen and a half hunts, this coin also marked a personal milestone for me -- my 40th silver coin for the year.

I owe a great deal of gratitude to Minelab, for producing machines that do such a good job at sniffing out silver, and also to both my hunting partners, and to the many folks on this forum who have given such a tremendous amount of priceless advice to me while learning this machine. Thanks to everyone who has helped me directly -- in person, on the phone, and in posts/PMs specifically to me, and thanks also to all the countless others whose posts not directly intended for me have nonetheless given me numerous tidbits and nuggets of great info which I continue to employ on a regular basis.

Thanks all! This hobby is much more personally rewarding and enjoyable for me as a result of your help!

Nice post Steve and congrats on #40.

The iron falsing off of deep rusty nails is the reason I recommend hunting in semi auto sensitivity most of the time.

Congrats on your 40th !!!! You're sneakin' up on me Steve .... I better get to work !

GOOD HUNTING STEVE -CAN YOU BELIEVE I ALSO FOUND A 1944-D MERC

Thanks all.

Hey Dave -- I have a running competition right now with my hunting partner (who is at 44 for the year), and I've been quietly trying to keep up with you as well; may as well bring it into the open! :)

Bryce -- the iron falsing has proven to be the toughest hurdle for me to get through, in terms of hitting those more subtle, deep coins...but you are my inspiration in terms of the old, hunted-out parks. I know you get particular pleasure pulling goodies out of areas that are said to be "hunted out;" I'm really working hard to learn to do the same. That's why #40 was a milestone for me in two ways -- the obvious (#40), and the less obvious, in that it was the first one I've managed in that old city park. I know the goodies are there, given the park's age, and I intend to learn to find them, just as you do.

Nice job, Curt. I'd be interested to see what you've been finding...

Take care all and happy hunting...

Steve
