United States Postal Service fees....................

I recently shipped a couple of packages and used the post office...

WOW.The charges were extremely expensive I felt .Big increase in just a few months...

Yesterday my wife sent a package to a friend... Postal charges were $36.00 dollars. 4 days to destination..

Later in the day my wife's friend decided she wanted a second item my wife had that was exactly the same thing for her sister...Same weight..and packaged in the same box type.. NO JOKE a fact..

Post office was closed so I took it to UPS Store open till 7PM.... Guess what. The exact same package shipped by UPS only cost $23.00, and three day delivery to boot... That is $13.00 dollars difference between post office and UPS for the exact same package...

What is up with the United States Post Office ??? Why so high ?????????????? This isn't a joke post people ..it is as it happened..So unless you want to pay more..you might want to check around for shipping fees. You could be paying way more for same service............

My self I am switching to UPS for all shipping of packages............ Something is way out of kilter with the Post Office !!

The Post Office is losing money hand over fist. They are raising rates as fast as possible. Since I don't want to get too political part of the problem is the UNION.

At one time the Post Office did not want to handle packages. They did not think that one could make any money on packages. That is when UPS came into existence.

Then FEDEX came up with overnight delivery. Now it appears that the Post Office cant compete with UPS and FedEx.

When possible I use one of the Post Offices "Flat Rate Box". If the merchandise fits in the box then they ship it as long as it weighs less than 50 lbs.

Thanks.George...................... Their prices are just plain crazy lately..and not the best of service many times..

Thanks all Just wanted to vent a little ........... I know it's my choice to use them or not..I say not from now on....

A buddy of mine pointed out today it's more convenient for him to use the P.O. As not everyone has a UPS close to them. He does not..... I understand. You have to do what you have to do...

If I have to use them..I will from this point on charge for the shipping built in what ever I sell unless it is a trade deal...... if it is requested I ship P.O.. ... Sorry !!

My wife will still send her friends things free of charge and no freight hahahhahahaa LOL Gotta love her !!!

In 2006 Congress passed a bill that required the U.S. Postal Service to put enough money in the postal service pension plan by 2016 to fund the entire pension fund requirements for the next 75 years. The effect was to force the postal service to set aside retirement pension funds for future employees for the next 75 years,. That bill not only caused shipping rates to go up, it's also the reason the postal service has a hugh deficit every year.

How was it shipped? Did you use regular Priority Mail, Express Mail, or Standard Post? Priority Mail is cheaper than Express Mail, Standard Post is cheaper than regular Priority Mail, and for heavy items, flat rate Priority can be the cheapest way to go. If your item could fit in a large flat rate Priority box it would ship anywhere in the U.S. for $17.45.

You can use this site to help determine the best way to ship USPS. http://postcalc.usps.com/

Another valid reason for the ever increasing prices from the Post Office, groceries, everything else, is the cost of fuel. Six years ago gas was under $1.90 in my area and today it is about $3.50.
