A cold wet day

I ventured outside my yard for the first time today since recieving my Vaquero earlier in the week.
Between yesterday morning and this morning we had a bunch of rain. Today it was very windy with wind chills in the 20's. Anyway I thought I would try this lot where there use to be an old mill owners house. First couple signals were junk. Then I got a very solid hit that max'd out the descimination. By this time I was wet from kneeling and the wind was blowing right through me. I was cold...lol. I dug....nothing! Dug some more ....nothing! The Pro pointer was giving off intermitent signals but the Vaquero was loud and clear. Something was there but I couldnt find it!! No rust or anything. So I knelt there like a fool looking at this hole.....Then noticed some really good looking damp red clay.

SO....I was wondering, could a really good damp/wet red clay fool a detector like that? Does anyone know?

I gave up since I was cold and had an appointment to keep. I marked the spot so I could return later and try again.

Thanks
Denis

How deep did you dig? How high can you lift the coil and still get a signal? Some of those aluminum cans can be 8 - 10" down and give one heck of a signal.
