I've learned that when the C$ hits the edge of iron it will cause the detector to give a false positive, usually giving a flakey coin range signal (I guess this is normal on the C$?). Moving around the iron object and watching the TID as you come in to and out of the "coin" target spot will typically show negative numbers, and if dug will produce some old rusty iron trash. I thought this was odd, considering I have iron disc set to 99, but it appears to be normal.
I'm visiting my parents for the weekend, and brough my C$ for me, and my F4 for my father to hunt with. We started by hunting their back yard (house was built in the 1950's, so not real old, but I'm hoping to find just one silver). I found several pennies including some wheaties, and a few from the early 1960's, but so far no silver. My father found a '72 quarter and a wheatie on his first hunt, but is still getting the hang of the F4 (it's a good machine for a beginner to learn IMHO). Then we went to our local fairgrounds, and hunted a spot. Lots of coins, but didn't find anything old, which is a bit surprising since it's been there a while. My coin count for the day was 56 coins (and a 4-H medal), and my father landed 9 coins. I'll hit their front yard tomorrow morning before we head out to a school yard that's been there since the early 1900's, but previously had a resort on it in the late 1800's. My father also spied a house the burned down which was built in the late 1800's/early 1900's we may try.
HH, and Happy Easter,
Brian
