A clarification of a previous post the Slimline 800 vs BBS800

I bought another BBS 800 coil a couple of weeks ago and was surprised the difference in thickness compared to the Tornado 800 coil. The two coils on the previous post were identical except one had the BBS 800 sticker. My question did the newer or last of BBS 800 coils made have the same specs as the Tornado coil.I think it was Neil that suggestion in the previous comparison that I had a BBS 800 coil with a Tornado sticker, but more likely a Tornado coil with a BBS800,but that doesn't make any sense.I needed to replace the connector to an older BBS1000 coil and notice this coil doesn't have a blue wire to pin 6 like the newer coils, but the older BBS800 had the blue wire, elimination of this wire probably saved a lot of production cost of extra material and labor..I haven't had the time to hunt have the Tornado 10 inch back on the Sovereign to see if I missed anything in the parks I've been hunting with the smaller coil.HH Ron

The extra wire on the older coils was redundant anyway. Two ground wires tied to the same points was of no practical value as far as I could see. They were both a common circuit ground.

Art,maybe someone made a lot of money with that suggestion. The little work I have done pining the connector wires for the Sovereign's lets me appreciate the quality of the wire they used in the coil cables. HH Ron

If nothing else, they made the outer jacket thick and tough enough to take a beating. Thick enough to be a pain in the butt!! The only real weak spot is where the wires solder to the connector.
The second most weak spot is usually near the coil...enough flexing will eventually start breaking the wire.

Art ,the weak link at the connector is an easy repair only four wires to pin ,Most 6 pin mic connectors can be found on Ebay. The cable to coil fix not sure. But I agree made to take a beating.HH Ron

Hey Ron, yes that was me. Not sure which way the stickers went but the newer tornados that they released from the Sov Elite era to date are the thinner ones. They didnt appear to move the ears on the 8" model if I remember but they did on the 10" one(moved them closer to center for better balance).
cant help you with the wires, whenever I replaced plugs I just made a diagram of how it was when I took it apart and redid it the same way.

Neil,I got a bulk load of coils including 4 older Excal 10 inch coils and 3 excal II 10 coils.I'm very impressed with the Slimline coil off the Excal that I put on my Sovereign.HH Ron.
