For meditation:
"Christmas is a time of joy", the card read.
Yet, to most people, this is an empty phrase. Almost a joke, some say. Why is there war, poverty, high prices, hate, and fear running rampant at this time of year?
Joy?
As with all things, it is what you make of it. What you want and hope for. If you look for fear, you'll find it. If you hope for the impossible, it's likely you won't get it.
Christmas, more than ever, should be a family affair. It should be simple and with meaning. Forget how much you spent compared with what you get in return. A little love given with an inexpensive gift can make it a rich treasure.
Forget your hates, and fears, and smile at the world. Even you enemies will like you for it.
Whatever your beliefs are, there is no one who does not desire peace. And Christmas Day has been set aside to commemorate the birth of a man who tried, against all odds, to teach us a lesson of peace. he died a violent death, as had many others before and after him. But we cannot set aside the efforts of these peacemakers.
As a start in the right direction this Christmas, one might remember this passage: Do unto others as you would have them to do unto you.
May you have a joyful Christmas!
