A Big Concern & A Little Positive At The Park

Bill G

Member
#1 My Concern, I was at a local park just a few days ago and noticed some very poorly dug holes from another detectorist. I went around and dressed them up as much as I could and made them look as good as possible. Actually, they did not look too bad after the fact. This kind of actions from other detectorist concern me but some guys just don't get it. Then I started my hunt.

#2 My positive, I had a little girl and her mom stop and talk with me about detecting. The little girl was watching and kept telling her mom she wanted one. I showed the mom and the girl how the detector worked, explained briefly the sounds and VDI numbers plus the screen functions and showed them how to dig a target properly in a park or on grass. I also explained the code of ethics to them. They were very interested and it was fun talking with them. The mom asked about the cost and said she did not want to spend a lot at first so I recommended the Garrett ACE 150 to her for her daughter. They said thanks and went along there way, I think we all felt pretty good about the outcome.

Bil thanks for taking the time to talk with the young girl and her mom, your a credit to our sport helping and explaining to them what metal detecting is all about..I bet one day that young lady will be posting on here lol...Markmac

You gave the hobby some good PR :clapping: And it only takes one thoughtless hunter to have an area closed for metal detecting.

Thanks Guys,

It's up to all of us do do the right thing for the hobby, that also goes for life in general when we can..

If more of us did this instead of shrugging off the onlookers...It might do a great service for the hobby...I know...I know...It takes up time out of your busy hunting schedule, but ya know...sometimes ya gotta sacrifice.
WTG!!!!

HH,

Great job.
I hope you showed her how to use the hand
held pin pointer as well. I think one of the reasons we
find some poorly dug holes is that the person makes a mess
trying to find the target. The hole gets bigger and bigger.
I was told I could not detect in one park near me because
the grounds keeper found a young woman with a shovel
digging a hole like she was digging for China! Ruined it
for everyone else.

As a matter of fact I did show her my Garrett Pro pointer and what it was for.

Thanks,
