9x8 coil for Bandido II uMax?

Is there any advantage of using the 9x8 elliptical coil over the 8" concentric coil on the Bandido II uMax?

Not much of anything, unless you count the extra weight. :)

I've switched those two coils back and forth on several of my machines and they are very similar. However, the 8" concentric air tests just a bit better, at least on my detectors.

From their release, I used the on various models, and also used the brown open-center 8" and a couple of prior open-center white 8" coils. Usually, the white 8" was slightly hotter, and then felt a little lighter and better balanced. I preferred them to the brown 8" and always have. The brown 8" and the 8X9 perform very, very close, but I have seen a tiny edge in depth with some 8" over the 8X9's. I feel they balance a little better than the 8X9, and they don't get hung-up and snagged as bad as the 8X9.

So, why or when do I go to the 8X9? I only really like it when I have hunted a sandy beach out in the surf area, or on the shallow water edge of a large river or lake. I don't hunt them all that often, but the 8X9 is better when working in the wet zone.
