9x12 coil in water?

ralph

New member
Anyone used it in water? How sensitive to small objects, and how hard to use(swing) underwater?

It works fine but I like the 5x8 better as I have a messed up shoulder and it's easier. I think the smaller coil runs smoother in salt water for me. In fresh they seem to run about the same.

I've used the 11X8.5 and it is not that hard to swing. However, I agree with Sailorman that the 8X5 is much easier to swing in the water. Kind of depends on how deep your going. if the control box is below water at say waist deep then you get additional drag from the control box. The box also has some buoyancy and the 11X8 counter acts that a bit better than the 5X8. I used the 11X8.5 DD all weekend last week in the water and found tiny pins and earrings. So sorry it's not a direct answer to your inquiry about the 9X12 but I expect they swing about the same in the water. Trash level is another consideration. The area I hunted last week has a lot of trash in the ankle biter water and I was wishing I had the 5X8 on at times but tuffed it out and did OK.

Hey Ralph...

I just learned this week at the beach that you don't swing a metal detector in the water/ocean... you move it around

And if the wave action is rather active, it moves it for you... usually not in the direction you want your detector to go!
