9ct Gold chain.....9ct signet & more

Out with the machine again today to a very erroded beach. I think some other detectorists have been there....Most of the big targets are gone...However. ...

The finds...2 silver rings (photos not uploaded). One of them is made up of six individual silver rings...strange ring...may clean and upload a pic. 1x Taitanium ring. 1x junk.

The best finds of the day are Gold! Pic attached.

Little 1.5 gram old 9ct signet ring and my first fine chain. 9ct 60 cm long. 8 grams....

Overall really happy.

Just wish the machine was lighter!!!

Hmm, don't mean to disappoint you but gold usually comes in 10K, 12K, 14K, 16K, 18K, 20K, 22K and 24K.
I've never heard of 9 ct.
IT may be real but it may not.
What Country are you from ?
I guess maybe it could be possible that some country produces less then 10K but gold here is never an odd number.
Just to let you know, not everything with a stamp is real and there has been a lot of counterfeiting in the jewelry trade with alloy's that resemble gold and are stamped as being gold.
Happy that you had fun because that's all it's really about.

China, India, Thailand, Portugal are some that make a lot of 9K, but NOT the US. I have never found a FAKE 9K. I would put my money on it being REAL gold!

I think he's from New Zealand and yes there are countries where you'll see a lot of 9 karat. However, in the United States and all of Europe, below 10k is sub standard. For luxury jewelry, below 18k is considered sub standard. Look at Furer Jacot in Switzerland - only 18k and plat. What would make me think that chain is maybe not actually real is how much it weighs...I would have guessed a lot more than 8 grams even if it's 9k...60cm is a nice length...2 feet long, 8 grams is just way too light. Maybe his scale was off? Might want to acid test that one. Nice finds anyway, I consider any hunt with a ring a good hunt. I'd be having a hay day on the beaches this guy goes to! Too bad they're on the other side of the earth!

If the chain was a higher K value, I would expect it to weigh more, being 9k gold, the weight would be less than a similar chain of a higher k value..

dmnz..... good finds, I'm assuming all were from wet or dry sand, could you fill us in on how you set up your machine at the beach..... freq scan?, Full or partial GB? , Sensitivity normally used....etc

Thanks

Cliff

Nice finds Congrats :clapping:

Yeah...my wish too..would be a more valuable detector if it was half it's weight. I've gone back to my first love. The Dual Field and now only occasionally use the ATX.

It is definitely 9k gold. In NZ common are: 9k. 10k (from the uk). 18k. 22k. 24k rare (most from india)

Also keep in mind we are metric. 8 grams is .282 ounces

I would have found countless 9k rings now. ...just never really a 9ct fine chain. The point of the post for the atx hitting it!

Also borrowed a mates dual field yesterday. Feels like a feather duster in comparison. However the beach had a ton of hot rocks. ...so ATX ground balanced over one. Sensitivity up to compensate for loss of depth and scrapped the surface for targets, limited or no discrim. (I normally dont ground balance and discrim on 3 or 4, sensitivity 9 or 10 however yesterday that became too distracting). Funny enough I also turned on ground tracking to 75% and had a pretty quiet machine. Did not need huge depth as the sand was heavily erroded. The beach however is one of the worst in the area for black sand (iron).

The small 9ct ring had a broken band so a poor / quiet response. I definitely need to try and lighten the ATX some more. May consider going back to the DF for clean beaches in the water. It is just so simple....but works. Am at 91 gold for the year so have 1 month to get to 100!

Good finds as always. Go for the 100 gold rings, only 9 more.

I was interested that you are using ground tracking. I have not been using it, but I'm going to give it a try. In the lakes that I've been detecting, the mineralization can change a lot in a short distance. Alternating bands of black sand and low mineralization. That automatic ground balancing could be just what I need to quiet my machine. Has anyone else had good results with this?

Oh, and I've found a few 9K rings here in Canada. I assumed that they were English.

Off the 9K subject...BUT might help with other's comments made above.

The BEST way I have found to lighten the ATX is to buy and use the Minelab ProSwing 45. Hefty price for lightening the ATX.
I could only swing the ATX for an hour or so without getting an arm ache. NOW with the ProSwing I have gone for more than 4 hours and had no problems. The Swing Thing Garrett gives with the ATX did help, but was not comfortable and gave my shoulder a sore spot. The ProSwing took some 4 or 5 detecting days to get it "tuned in" - adjusted to a very comfortable accessory.

The only area I need some adjustment in is locating the detector attachment strap so it does not interfere with my hand where I grip the ATX.

It is not needed in the surf or shallow water. The near neutral buoyancy of the ATX takes care of the weight when submerged.

Nice chain!! Good to see the ring finding pace is still rolling along dmnz, :clapping: who knows, you might have a few more multi-ring days and wrap up a 100 golds with a week or two to spare:thumbup:
